1600 Weber Question

My winter plan is to finally install my Weber 40 DCOEs. For anyone that has done this, is it easier to bolt on the intake manifold and then the carbs, or install the carbs on the manifold first and then install? Thanks.

Manifold then carbs. A word of caution. Some of the manifolds are not machined all that well and you may have to have some machine work done. Ensure that the mounting faces are flat. Measure the thickness where the Yokes (really thick washers) go and compare to the exhaust manifold or header. They may need to be milled a bit to match.

That being said, the fitting of the manifold first is way easier. Then rear carb, then front carb.

Jason Rector installed webers on his 1600 and absolutely loves them. His name on here is Fairlady5150, but he doesn't frequent the site - he prefers Facebook or MeWe.

As mentioned previously, I have Webers on my '68 1600 and I love them. Agree with installing the manifold first, then carbs starting with the rear first. I had to take the intake manifold and exhaust header (Dean's ceramic coated header) to a machine shop and have them worked on to get them flat and matching. Turns out some of the 1600 to Weber manifolds aren't perfectly flat, so you have issues with them running lean due to air leaks. Not a big deal if you know this going into the project, so just be sure to check the flatness of the manifold.

The only issue with the linkage kit is the throttle cable connection, which I had fabricated using a new SS tee bolted to the manifold. Picture included for reference.

Once installed and dialed in, they are a real treat. The Webers combined with a Thrush Turbo series muffler sound real nice on that car.

Ya all know what I'm gonna say... add a wide band for tuning!!! And invest in a good carb airflow meter to balance them...

Hi Sid, we don’t make complete Weber linkage for that style 1600 manifold because it isn’t set up as a center pull system as Nissan used.

We do have correct linkage if you want to run Weber’s on a U20 manifold. (Solex linkage doesn’t work for that). I’ll put that up on the site with other new parts soon.

One could also use the Weber center pull linkage with the manifold shown to eliminate all that kludge heim joint/cross rod monkey setup, but additional fabrication would be needed to use a “roadster type” throttle cable.

As mentioned, those manifolds have multiple issues though.

Thanks everyone for your input. I did install triple Webers on my 260Z years ago and ran them for about 12 years without issue before I sold the car so do have some familiarity with adjusting and tuning them. My 1600 is actually a 1750 built by Rebello (under previous ownership) years ago so looking forward to the project.

I've revised the jetting to F11 emulsion tube, 115 Main jet, 200 air jet, F9 45 idle jet. Good luck. Mine runs great once warmed up but hesitant at idle until it has run for a few minutes.

Thanks for the info and link. I haven't checked current jetting yet but I do have a bunch of extra jets from the Z I had so I should be able to get it dialed in.
