Re: Not Much Wheel Selection
I still can't fathom how anyone can say this when there is a wheel thread with literally OVER 100 pictures of different wheel options, readily available or not. From off-the-shelf to totally custom one-off. It's all there.Slackline wrote: Mon Oct 19, 2020 9:05 pm What I meant by dropping this and moving on is that there are not a lot of readily available options...

But they are 15 x 7 with 4.25 backspace. Would they fit?
Maybe?
You have a '66. These have really small fender flares. Do you plan to lower the car? What size tires do you want to run?
I've seen 15x7 work on many cars, so check the center bore diameter and go for it!

Re: Not Much Wheel Selection
I have been through all of the pages in the wheel thread. Some of those are easy to find, some are hard to find. None look like Halibrands.

Understood. You are not finding "readily available options for Halibrand-style wheels". Got it.Slackline wrote: Mon Oct 19, 2020 9:35 pm I have been through all of the pages in the wheel thread. Some of those are easy to find, some are hard to find. None look like Halibrands.
To the OP and others: if you want to solicit wheel help, maybe the title of your thread/question should be
"I AM LOOKING FOR A WHEEL THAT IS STYLE X"
It will help us help you, rather than playing a guessing game.

Tires - not sure, I like them to fit the wheel with similar width and not have the rim sticking out past the tire.
I found a site online that shows a bore of 79.3
I am going to look at the wheel thread again and see what the backspacing and tire selection are on the cars that have 15x7's.

1- 15x7 with a backspace of 4.25 means it has an offset of ~+6mm, with these specs they will stick out of the fenders by a little more than 25mm (1") in the front and will require rolling and potentially pulling the fenders in the back on a 66
The Scott Drakes line of wheels are made specifically for the Mustang, Cobra, Cougar lines of car and are hub centric
These cars had hubs that varied from 66-70mm our cars require at a minimum 73.1 , so if you buy one of these wheels you will need to have the center bores machined on the wheels ( Spacers are not an option as they would push the heels further out still

Re: Not Much Wheel Selection
Thank you.
Finally getting a handle on the wheel spacing. I could not figure out why the backspacing and offset math did not work. I found a site that explained that you add a half inch to get the backspacing. So a 6 inch wheel with zero offset has a 3.5" backspace instead of a 3" backspace.
I appreciate the help.

That's correct as long at you take it as a general rule of thumbSlackline wrote: Tue Oct 20, 2020 11:58 am Thank you.

the only way to have accurate backspace ( or offset ) is to measure or go by the manufacturer specifications when available
the reason to add the 0.5 in is that a wheel is measured bead to bead and typically there's about another 1/2" per side on the overall width but this is not consistent and I've seen smaller and larger 1/8 more or less per side isn't much but it can push out the wheel by another 6mm which can make a huge difference if things are tight.
Also there are differences in mounting faces from different wheel manufacturers
on a 66 a safe wheel bet is 6" wide with a +10 to +20 offset is a good bet and will fit easily front and back with room to spare , you can run a decent size tire (195) it will look good especially if lowered and unless you have a swapped engine will have more than ample traction

Agreed. My target was a 6" wheel.
Thank you.

Did you find a wheel that met your criteria since this initial post about "not much wheel selection"?

If you can find a wheel on this thread then it will be best to consult Google and visit some reputable shops online.

Re: Not Much Wheel Selection
Not yet, I returned today because some vector wheels surfaced on the net and I'm trying to find what they look like on the car.
