I enjoyed the episode, season premiere non the less and brings some awareness to our cool cars. It was fun watching them work on something we are so familiar working on. One thing mike talked about was how bad the stock brakes were. I have stock brakes on my 1600 and I drive it quite spirited, I think they are more than adequate. That said I’ve never experienced the Volvo conversion and I know they need to hype up the mods they do. I think it’s more than possible the stock brakes when they test drove was not operating near its capabilities. They just as easily could have rebuilt the stock brake system and said how good it was for the era.

I watched it the other night also. Overall, I thought it was really decent episode, better than normal.

I think it was a 1600 with a motor/trans swap. Look at the grill. It should have had the D.

I did think it was a little weird to put so much air time into the brake pedal spacing. I’ve never seen that as an issue in my car at all.

I was disappointed. Wrong year, model, same old Datsun copied MG bs, no real tech info. Somehow the interior changed from velour to stock red and so on. I was grousing and my wife, who usually has a more even outlook, said "remember, they;re just flippers".
Some positive exposure is better than none, even if is ill informed.

This episode made me subscribe (and then cancel within the 14 day window) to Motortrend so I could watch it.

Fun episode, weird that they bought it from Gene. I actually met him little over 10 years ago at the Salt Flats.

The thing that gets me is, after going back and watching older new episodes I have missed (no cable for years), where do they go to get their car painted for so cheap?! 2 places I talked to wanted 3-4 times what they get a car resprayed for.

While I always enjoy watching the show, I would never purchase one of their flips. They just do the bare minimum to make the car appear to be in great condition and then advertise it like it’s a restored car. They’ll replace a ball joint or a couple of bushings or whatever is just completely shot and ignore the rest of the worn parts and then claim they rebuilt the front end. As for paint, I bet they are just one step above Maaco. I‘d like to see one of their flips a year latter.

As 'dealers', they get their 20-footer orange peel wholesale.

It's interesting as 'good paint' can cost hundreds of dollars for a gallon. Talking to the painters they tell me that the ingredients haven't really changed. It seems there are a limited number of suppliers selling paint in the US. The whole thing smells of price fixing. Anyone have knowledge on this?

Numerous industries have consolidated over the years. Certainly true in the aviation paint sector. Can't speak to automotive.

Is front bumper deleting really a thing? I personally love the look of the stock bumper. All I wanted to see was Ant struggle with the tuning of it. It was nice to see the rebuilds they did though. Still two projects I need to tackle. Strange how on TV it looks so simple
