Fuel pump

As part of the process of rehabbing my '67 I purchased a rebuild kit for the fuel pump and rebuilt it. It wasn't a tough job by any means. After driving the car I found that I had an oil leak which I traced up to the pump. It seems that the shaft that the rocker arm rocks on had walked out to one side and the oil was leaking from around it. I pushed it back in and fabricated a washer with a tab on it to go onto the pump mounting stub and against the shaft to hold it in place. Well, it reduced the leak greatly but it still weeps a little. The end of the shaft on a new pump is exposed. but of course does not leak. Is there any sort of seal in a new pump? I expect that it is simply a pressed fit and mine has loosened a little.

There is no seal on the shaft. Sounds like you have an early pump. You might consider upgrading.

Later pumps ( the kind that are nearly impossible to rebuild) have a much more robust shaft seal.

When you installed the pump did you make sure to insert the lever to the cam correctly? Also, do you have the correct spacer installed? Any pics of the pump type and/or pics of the pump installed?

Nice thing about the early pumps is they are easily rebuildable. Some of the later pumps are rebuildable with effort.
Maybe McMaster Carr would have a seal you could use. Or if the late pumps have a seal maybe it would fit the early one you have.
You are pretty inventive so I think you will think of something

I don't have a problem with the pump pumping. I rebuilt it and it pumps just fine. It is just that it leaks a drop every ten miles or so which gets on the underside of the car and leaves a few drops on the garage floor after every time I drive it. I have been thinking of a piece of plastic that the tab on the washer could push against the side of the pump where the shaft is.
