steering wheel shake
Hello,
Recently i have been experiencing a pretty decent shake in the steering wheel above 40mph. Lower ball joints were recently replaced...any ideas?
Thanks!

Wheel balance/thrown wheel weight, separated tire belt, tie rod ends...

Re: steering wheel shake
Bent wheel rims are many times the problem among the others listed above
Also there is a art to getting a tire centered just right and then it takes minimal weights I would rebead tired with a high weight balance usually dropping it in half
A warped or un smooth brake rotor also will do it
Is it a constant shimmy at /near 35

Re: steering wheel shake
Ujoints can cause some shaking. You can check the play on them.

Re: steering wheel shake
Try rotating the tires to the back, if the vibration moves to the seat and out of the steering, it's probably a bent wheel or bad balance as mentioned. If the shake stays in the steering, it's something in the front suspension.

Re: steering wheel shake
I agree to assume the easiest fix first, which would be tire/wheel balance. If you can find a shop that does Road Force Balancing (which requires a different machine) you will get a much better balance. It usually cost a bit more but it is worth it.

Re: steering wheel shake
Wouldn’t hurt to lift front end and check for play at each wheel. Shake up/down/sideways too for slop.

Re: steering wheel shake
I lost a weight group, and noticed it right away. Les Schwab is your friend. Most recently I had noticed my steering wheel shaking more than usual, found loose nuts at dash connection to column. Pat
