Roadster in poor condition, interested in perspectives.
A nearby local with no Fairlady knowledge wants to unload this poor lady. Any gurus here have any thoughts on this and what it might be worth? I was hoping for a bit more of of a headstart but Im interested this if it is a viable option for restore, rebuild or engine swap. Thanks in advance.

Looks like a 66/67 model. They are more desirable than the "tall windshield" models. If the price is right, it could be a great start to a fun build... if the work doesnt intimidate you.

Looks like a great place to start.

Unless the price is VERY reasonable, I personally think you should find a better example to start with. Unless of course you have the skills, time, money and desire to take on a really big project. We have all seen members start with less but the old saying, "Buy the best one you can afford" has alot of wisdom in it. If the price is right, maybe pick it up as a donor car? Has the seller mentioned a price?
Ive seen normal. It aint pretty.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. He is throwing out 1,200-1,500.....that probably would not fall into the category of "very reasonable".....I had originally only planned on a engine rebuild and possibly paint-light body work....this project does look hefty....

Re: Roadster in poor condition, interested in perspectives.
Carburetor left opened, distributor left open, vent on valve cover left open, thermostat housing left open, top left open, and then left out in the weather. Why do people do this and expect to get thousands of dollars out of them. Can’t tell about the rust, but you know the floor pans and any other areas that can hold water are shot. I don’t think that you could part that thing out and recoup your costs. 1600 drive trains are a dime a dozen so no real value there. The body does look reasonably straight if it’s not full of rust and it looks like most of the trim is there. This is a huge expensive project. If you really want to be up to your neck with alligators then you might try the following. Pull up datsunparts.com on your phone and show him the prices for interior kits, carpet kits, brake kits, rubber kits, Suspension kits, steering kits, etc. Then, if you are a glutton for punishment, offer $500 or less. You can do much better than what this car has to offer, you just need to pay up front. Good luck with your search, there is still decent cars for decent prices out there.

I started with this because it was free. Basically you would be looking at building almost a complete car from scratch. Everything on that car looks like it needs work.Years of work but it is better than what I began with. Somebody will save it maybe. Financially, it probably doesn't make sense but that has never stopped me:)

Re: Roadster in poor condition, interested in perspectives.
That is a car that SHOULD be parted out instead of the nicer ones the scrappers buy. If you can see 500 worth of parts that you want, I’d offer that like Mike said. Then scrap the rest of the car. Even that is too much work. I have always advocated seeing the parts costs first, again as Mike pointed out.
This car could take years of work and many would give up and have all of it in boxes for the next buyer. Sad.

Sadly-Linda has passed away 2022. She was the 311's den mother and drove the first Rare-Parts ball joint project. RIP.

Re: Roadster in poor condition, interested in perspectives.
$500.00 sounds about right. If you can salvage even one of the front fenders for yourself or another member, your on your way to recouping your investment. Its always nice to have a parts car available when you are working on a project. If you have the room that is. If you have to pay for storage, thats a whole different can of worms.
