4-speed electrical connections

What are the electrical connections on the side of the 4 speed for?
1968 Datsun Roadster 1600 - 1.6L - 4 speed manual
Various other boring cars (Accord, F-150, Explorer)

The reverse light under the rear bumper. You can disconnect and tape them off if you don’t have a rear light or don’t want to use it.

If your car is a 70, or you have a later transmission installed, you may also have a neutral safety switch. Unless you have it connected with the emissions stuff, you can ignore it.
