Direction of coolant flow

Post by The Neck »

Hi everyone,

I'm getting closer and closer to having this overheating, now vapor locking issue hammered out with the help of a few really incredible forum members. A couple months ago I posted about vapor locking and having issues with overheating. After a head gasket replacement, new ADQ needles and nozzles, timing and valve job, the car is running much better and pulls great.

I'm still however having issues with the rear carb float bowl sitting in the low 200's after driving for a little bit. I have been looking for a diagram of the coolant system and more specifically the direction of the flow/hose set ups. I'm wondering if I have a hose on backwards, or if there's something simple that I'm missing. The PO did a number on this car and it's like Christmas every time I pop the hood.

Current main issues are, the rear carb float bowl sits around 220 once I've been driving for about 30-45 min, and the exhaust mani temps are 650+.

If anyone has some good pics of the correct set up or a diagram that would be super helpful!

That a great start!

I'm also looking for the others for the hoses coming out of the water pump and in the rear of the engine for the 1600.

For all I know the PO also has these installed backwards.

I'd look into the radiator needing work ...that maybe your head gasket problem
A rod out. is my recommendation. Or new ,unless its a new radiator ....also use a fill funnel to be sure air is displaced
