Gas Mileage

Post by 70MTRoadster »

Been taking an afternoon drive now for couple weeks in the Roadster with new U20 SU's and it is running great! I am getting 18 mpg mixed city/hwy driving. Is this about normal? Running Conoco Premium that has no ethanol in it, 91 octane. This is my 3rd "2000" and I remember blasting across Nevada way back in the 70's at 86 mph and getting 32 mpg.

I drive a Roadster or 510 almost every day!

That's about right. I get between 8 and 36 mpg depending on the fun I am having.

Anywhere between 25-35 mpg on continuous freeway driving is good. Very dependent on your style of driving.

Phil is correct (as usual) on the expected mileage. Stock 2000s running SUs should also be able to deliver the Nissan advertised claim of an indicated 100mph in third gear if havin' fun is the object.

I average 24mpg combined running a cam with B cam duration and a lot more lift, Dellortos with 37mm chokes, crank fired ignition, 3.9 final drive. It's remained 24mpg over the past 20 years or so regardless of what I did to the engine.

Here is my mileage log from the past year for my 2L, mpg on far right. We got the best mileage on longer trips, like to Watkins Glen in September. And very poor mileage lately with the lockdown and only doing quick blasts around the neighborhood.

Looks like I am right in there then..cool….love driving that car. Some of the most fun we have ever had was in our roadsters. Married 47 years June 2nd. Just got back from another drive, filled her up and got 25 mpg....this time most of it was highway miles, and yes she'll do 97 mph in third!!

Somehow the 47 years and still havin' a bit of fun in a 2000 seem to complement. Congrats!
