Seattle 1600 survivor

Post by teranfirbt »

Hey all, my wife and I have been looking for a roadster for a number of years, ostensibly for her, but I love them too.
Found this beauty of an early 69 1600 on Craigslist recently. It's a survivor, only thing that seems to be not original is the paint. Little surface rust here and there, but nothing that can't be handled in time. My other projects include an '86 MR2 turbo and an '86 Tercel 4WD wagon, but this marks my first foray into "properly" old cars :).
Looking forward to the Roadster adventure! -Derek

From the pictures it looks like a very nice place to start. I think I saw that on the interweb and if I recall, it was priced pretty reasonably. Congrats and welcome. Lots of good people in the PNW on this forum. Don't be afraid to reach out for help as you need it.
Ive seen normal. It aint pretty.

Welcome to the fray! I recently watched an episode of Wheeler Dealer on the motor trend channel where they work on an MR2T and fix the common $2.00 coolant hose repair... that requires engine removal. They also cover rebuilding the turbo. Fun episode you might want to reference some time. At least they give you a visual!

That does indeed look like a nice car. A few trips with the top off will spoil you to convertibles forever! Judging from the piece of equipment in the lower left corner of your picture I’m guessing that you are going to be quite able to do any necessary work on your car. Wish I had one!

Derick, the car looks great! First things first, if it runs as solid as it looks, take her to the mountains, top off. NOTHING is better than a convertible in the mountains. Go on a week day, and go to some lesser known places, like Roslyn. Or review some of Teds posts about the drives up near you. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face!
