Looks good. I am interested to see which paints are the most durable. The clear coat should definitely help.
Did you do the shift plate too? Can’t see too well but it looks pretty nice also.

Sadly-Linda has passed away 2022. She was the 311's den mother and drove the first Rare-Parts ball joint project. RIP.

Linda - shift plate is original. The vinyl was peeling off along the top edge; I used contact cement to put it back in place. We'll see how long it holds. I do have some "doe skin" vinyl that I ordered to re-make the rear panels behind the seats. I've thought about re-covering the shift plate with it somewhere down the road (no pun intended).

Installed the red 20 tooth gear and housing today, 180 degrees from original. Speedo reads right on the money. Now we will see if it lives as long as mraitch's. I tried to set it so the gear teeth stuck out the same as the original blue 18 toother. I used an Excel spread sheet for gear calcs and plugged in my 185-65-14's and 5 sp gear ratios and according to the tach I should be damned close. Yay!

Finished cleaning up my rear end
Lots of scrubbing to get rid of 50 years of junk. Ran new brake lines and fortunately the seals and bearings looked good (for now). Going back under the car this weekend.

Thanks Rusty! The seals and bearings appeared to be in pretty good shape so I left them alone for now. Focused on replacing all of the brake hardware throughout the car so that was the major motivation for removing the rear axle.

Darryl came by and swapped out his old wheels For some 14x6 appliance mesh wheels. I think he’s pretty happy.

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
Finally I got around to fixing the torn out front tension cable eyelet attachment points of the tops vinyl rain gutters.
Was tired of seeing the holes in the vinyl when the top was up.
This repair was fairly easy as I only had to add a vinyl doubler on each inside and outside surface to cover the hole damage.
Luck would have it that I had some scrap pieces of vinyl from old convertible tops I had kicking around.
Quick surface wipe with acetone to clean and prep the vinyl surfaces of top and doublers.
Apply the cement to surfaces, wait 2 minutes, position and apply pressure or clamp.
Done.
Dollar store art paint brushes were found to be big help in applying the cement as the supplied brush in the can is quite large and cumbersome.
Also used a leather punch to produce the new hole thru the vinyl for the cable eyelet attachment.
The best vinyl adhesive That I could get my hands on was HH-66 Vinyl Cement.
Its used to repair install/vinyl tops and repair pool liners...etc
I've used this product before and it has great holding strength and remains flexible after curing.
This cement sets up fairly fast so you cant doddle around too much.
Cheers
