Pertronix plug gap

Post by Fairlady5150 »

Just picked up a new Roadster yesterday, a 1967.5 1600. It has a late engine that was de-smogged and converted to Pertronix EI. Anybody know what the plug gap should be on this setup?

Thanks in advance!

See if Pertronix advises a gap, but for ECR EI's I recommend .039-.043 per setting for equivalent Nissan EI set-ups.

gaps cause the ignition to work harder. Bend the side electrode to touch the center. That way it doesn't have to work so hard...

.039-.043 should be good.

What should I gap the spark plugs to?
Spark plug gap is somewhat subjective. Every engine responds differently to spark plug settings. We recommend that the gap be increased a maximum of .007" over the factory specification. This should not create any issue with service interval's or plug life, yet will enable you to take advantage of the added potential of the ignition system. It's important to read the plugs occasionally to insure that your changes do not adversely affect the engine performance.
