68 2000 Roadster Window Issue Help Needed

Post by halvernaz »

Looking for some advice/help with the windows on my 68 2000.

They just won't stay rolled up, is there something I can do/buy to solve this issue. They roll up very smoothly but won't stay up on there own.

Thanks
Henry

Sounds like the springs on the regulators have failed.

I agree with weak regulator springs. There are pretty uch always regulators for sale on ebay. Make sure that the felts in the channels are in good condition too.

Years ago I had this same issue with a driver door and I actually just re-positioned the handle as to where each bump I drove over it's gravity effect would tighten instead of loosen it's self, it did make a difference..

Thanks for the suggestions.

Does anyone have detail steps on how to remove/replace the regulator.

There is not much to it. roll it up, pull glass up and out. Remove handles by pulling escutchion plate out so that you can see retainers and pull them out with needle nose pliers. pull panel retainers by helping with a long screwdriver. With panel off you will see the screws that you remove to enable lifting the regulator out.

another thought is that the glass is "bedded into the channel under it. The bedding may be badly deteriorated. I sed ice and water shield to replace it. Again, be sure that your vertical channels are good.

A quick, temporary fix would be to simply loosen the two machine screws that keep the rear track secured to the back door (found on outside back of door), and gently cock it over to hamper the free down movement of the window. Be careful not to put too much pressure on the track as they like to break, but if you just keep checking the resistance while you roll the window down I’m sure you’ll solve your problem (temporarily).

If you do open the door up, check that the flanges on the rear window channel are not broken. Typically they 'fatigue'
