Hello from NorCal.
Haven't yet purchased, but looking hard at a '70 1600. Very nice body with no rust, one minor dent on front end, good chrome, original motor (not sure if #s match and not currently operational), clear glass, original interior/upholstery, needs new tires, new rubber all around, and new soft top.
How deep down the rabbit hole will this take me?
For what it's worth, I've built a '67 Mustang coupe, a '97 Wrangler crawler, currently wrenching/building a '72 K5 Blazer along with maintaining several other later model vehicles.

some would say a ‘70 1600 is the least desirable model. A rust free body is important. Though you can save in some areas on parts, there are few aftermarket parts available. Check the vendors section for what you can expect to pay.

While lots of parts are available, you will find that they don't compare favorably to American car parts. For example, since you mentioned needing all new rubber, the weatherstripping kit from Dean which includes most, but not quite all, of the rubber parts you will need will set you back $1375.00. Like dynaguy said go to the vendor section under quick links and check out the prices.
One thing for sure, if you build a nice one and take it to any car gathering it will garner more attention then any of your current builds. And if you've never driven an old sports car you will find out how much fun you can have at less than breakneck speeds.
One last thing. While the 70 1600 may be the least desirable model it's only because the rear tail light arrangement, the side marker lights, and the front parking lights are a little different. You may or may not know that the pre 67 1/2 models are significantly different, mainly interior and windshield height. Take some time and explore all the different models before you make your decision. Other then the drive train the cost to restore is similar for all models.

Welcome to the forum! If the price is right... just buy it! My dad has a 70 and he loved it!

My brothers and I have some 67.5 roadsters up here in Grass Valley. If you ever venture up this way we'd be happy to buy you a beer or a coffee and talk roadsters!

Seems about a fair deal if it runs. Pretty unusual for these cars to still have the smog equipment in place.
