Japanese cutie

Having spent countless weekends helping my father bleed brakes, I learned early that a brake system will always find the weakest point and fail. No sense for me in just trying to fix one failed caliper. Of course as with all things on my car that I haven't replaced yet, the ghost of past PO haunts me. Here are the brass block bolts I removed. One of these things is not like the other.

After some hardware cleanup I was ready to get my JT calipers dirty.
Here's what JT sent me. Loaded powder coated calipers, crossover tubes, and flex lines. Very nice.

Ready to bleed but failed miserably. I was warned about pressure bleeders but did I listen? No. Not to say they don't work wonderfully, just not for me today. I love the taste of brake fluid in the afternoon. Mine has a subtle metallic bouquet with hints of burnt oil, wiring, and something else foul....oh... that's me. Off to buy speed bleeders. See ya tomorrow.

The first time I bled my brakes by myself using Speed Bleeders my reaction was holy #!*&. No need to drag my wife to the garage.

That's great to hear as I will be hitting up this project very soon. Any tips? I also have the speed bleeders - just need to install them.

I just used a jar and tube at the bleeder. Had the hood open so I could watch the level in the master as I pumped, you don't want it to run out. Tip in the wiki is to drill a hole in the lid of a jar and insert the tube. I will do that next time.

Yep what Curtis said. When I got the speed bleeders on they worked like a charm. From my VW days, start with the furthest bleeder from the master and work forward. Left rear, right rear, right front, left front. I also lowered the front of the car a bit so that the master was level. This allowed me to get a couple tiny bubbles out before the wheels. I also gravity flushed the lines before actual bleeding. Watch the fluid level especially on the front master cylinder as it will go down quick. I also used a small hose clamp on the bleeder end of the 1/4 in. drain line going into my glass jar so it wouldn't slip off. SB3824's. In the brake section of Tech Wiki. Rock hard brakes now. Went roadstering yesterday afternoon. 73 and sunny. Excellente!!!

Yesterday I ripped around for 3 hrs. running errands. WAAAAY better. You can probably see the diff in the pic but I also Mike Young springs put on. JT said he had the shocks already tuned (?) for my car.Thanks for the help JT. Wife drove the car for the first time and her comment was "You need a new steering wheel". So is that permission to buy I wonder?
