seat heaters, under upholstery?

Post by onsight512 »

Does anyone have heaters installed in their seats? When I have my seats recovered I'd like to get heaters in there. Any recommendations?

If it matters, my seats are leather and out of a Fiat X1/9.

My seat heater is my back side. It's made considerably more effective by fueling it with convenience store burritos.
Sorry, couldn't resist.
For my low windshield car, since i'm over six feet, adding even minimal thickness to the seats would not be practical. Perhaps the X/19 seats have a lower profile?
Ive seen normal. It aint pretty.

The wires in production ( toyota , kia. etc. ) are in a fire resistant pad then a coarse cloth between it and the leather / vinyl
Lexus ls 430 has elect cooling pads too
Where did you find a X1/9 now ? Cessna 152 seats
Hard to get any lower than them

If you never drove a fiat x 19. You missed out

I'd certainly prefer something comparable to what production cars come with. I don't want a "two dollar" seat heating pad.

I found the X1/9 seats on Craigslist. The seat rails, which are two piece, have one part attached to the seat (not removable) and the other is welded to the floor of the Fiat. There's a Fiat place in Ohio (?) that sells parts and I bought the bottom rails from them. They cut them out of the cars. I spent a few hours with a Sawzall and an angle grinder removing the old remnants of the floor from the bottom rails before we made a new bracket to bolt them into the Roadster.

The seats come out of the car by sliding them all the way forward, and off the rails.

Yes, they have a pretty low profile. I measured it at one point, but don't remember what it was. The car is all apart at the moment, otherwise I'd check it again.

This is what I’m looking at to put in eventually in my cars
Current draw is reasonable and good strong reviews on Amazon and Summit

I have something similar to what Pjackb is referring to that I got from either eBay or Amazon. Although I really haven't had a chance to use them much they do seem to work well. I can't vouch for the long term viability, but I suspect they are pretty much the same principal as OEM heaters.

Are these designed to go between the seat cushion and rubber grid? Summit site rather vague. I’m not using seat covers so would like it hidden. Every bit of heat helps with our classics.

I used a universal set purchased off eBay a few years ago. They have both seat and seat back heaters. Carbon fiber grids that my upholstery guy said was the easiest to work with. Have had need to use only a couple of times on brisk early morning drives with my wife. Definitely helped to keep the whining sound at bay from the passenger seat. :smt003 They worked great! Pat

They go between the seat cover and the foam. You might be able to open the clips on the end of your seat cover and then "slide" them in.

I understand that you want installed heaters, not covers. However, the set I purchased and installed recently work great, with the only irritation being having to have a controller with wires next to your seat.
