brake caliper shim?

Post by shifty »

I just spent the last few days swapping out the front brakes from Zippy to the rat. Or at least, that was the idea.

I got all new front wheel cylinders and mounted them to the calipers from the rat. Some of the hard lines were toast, so I bent and flared new lines using the old fittings. Cylinder-to-cylinder fittings are diffferent from cylinder-to-hose! And new fittings would not seal! So that was a bit of fun.

I finally got the whole new assemblies mounted on Zippy and had to tweak the lines for wheel clearance.

Anyway, the whole point of this is, the calipers do not seem to be centered around the brake rotor. Looks like I need to shim them to move them inboard. There was one thin shim on the top mounting bolt on each side on both cars. Anyone dealt with this?
