New to the Community - 1967 Datsun 1600 Roadster

Post by Karr »

Just picked up a couple 1967 Datsun 1600 Roadsters that were lost in a family barn for over two decades. Since I decided to take on the project I have been researching everything I can and I am blown away by the 311 community so far. Im hoping that it will make this restoration process a little more smooth. I have huge expectations for what this car will be when finished.

My plan is to do a full frame off restoration bringing everything to new or better since I would love for this to be a driver. These cars belonged to my father-in-laws Father (my wife's Grandfather) so when I'm finished I want the family to be able to drive it or even possibly give it to my father-in-law.
To my surprise, the car actually fired up with very minimal work, but I do plan to swap the stock 1600 for an SR20DE.

Hopefully I will have many updates in the future.

Here are some pictures of how we found them and now at their new home. Definitely a lot of work ahead of me.

Just registered one of them. Having trouble locating the number on the second one so I’ll register it when I find it.

Got it except for the pic. I am having issues using my tablet without a keyboard. Will add the pic when I get back home. Thanks.

The white car appears to have a 2000 grill and tail pipe. Are you sure it's not a 2000? Engine pic? If it's indeed a 67 2000 then you have hit gold!

Unfortunately it is a 1600 instead of the 2000. The dash has 4 toggle switches and (correct me if I’m wrong) the 1967.5 was the first 2000 and had only 3 toggle switches? I attached a picture of the engine which I am hoping to have pulled by the end of the weekend.

Too bad. The good news is that now you can proceed with your swap uninhibited :D

I hope you checked around for old tractors while you were there! A suggestion: flush the brakes ASAP. you may save the wheel cylinders, doubtful but possible.
