Looking for advice 1970 240z
I just bought a 240z that I found in a garage. I was helping a friend get an old corvette out of the garage that he bought. I saw this z that was covered, I tried to peek at it and by buddy notice I was interested in it. He contacted me the next day and said it’s for sale. I now have the z and I’ve got it running. It’s in pretty good condition. Not original paint, but everything else seems to be mostly original and in good condition.
I’m looking for “the guy†in Sacramento tha can help me go through this car. Im sure there is somebody that works on these that I can hire to go through the car and look at what I’ve done, and make recommendation on what else needs to be done.
I’d like to do some of the work, but I’d also like this person to do some of the work. Any idea who this person might be??
Thank you

Re: Looking for advice 1970 240z
Here's what I've done so far.
- removed fuel tank. sealed off most of the air lines. Cleaned and lined the tank, and replaced
- while the fuel tank was off, I cleaned all the fuel lines, replaced as necessary
- removed the radiator and had it cleaned, replaced
- removed carburetors, rebuilt, replaced
- replace all brakes, and master cylinder
- had the brake booster rebuilt
- new tires, it sat for 15 years on the old tires
- hmm, I'm sure I missed something
oh yeah. I put brake fluid in the cylinders to break loose the cylinders. Soaked, drained. Ran some oil through the top, and drained. I replace the oil bar. Adjusted the valves. dropped the oil pan, found interesting things in there. Possibly has never been removed. Layers of stuff, quite a history. Hand turned the engine. replaced spark plugs. Fuel pump was bad, replaced.
replace battery. Started. runs. I was shocked that it ran after rebuilding the carbs. I adjusted them, seems to be running good. I really want a 240z person, (expert) to look it over for me. That's why I'm here.
Thank you

Inside is as clean as the outside. Has a cassette player rather than the original raido. Also, it's an automatic. serial 8987, one of the first autos.

Re: Looking for advice 1970 240z
Back to my original request, there doesn't seem to be a response to the question about Z mechanics in the Sacramento area?
I did get a response to a shop in San Jose, looks like a good option, I'd rather have somebody closer, any ideas?

Re: Looking for advice 1970 240z
I'm really looking forward to driving this car. My thoughts are to get it running and drivable, prior to making any modifications. At that point I'll make a decision on where to go. I like the idea of a daily driver. I also like the idea of modifying the car, more power, possible suspension upgrade. I know I don't want to make modifications that will make the car uncomfortable to drive on the street.

Re: Looking for advice 1970 240z
A '70 240 is a nice car and one worth keeping. If I were you I'd do careful mods to the car, such as a triple carb set up and a mild cam to compliment the carbs, a header and an upgraded ignition. They can always be put back to stock, but should give some performance improvements and certainly a wonderful engine sound! The 240s I've driven tend to get a little nose light at higher speeds than my Roadster, so maybe a period correct airdam or spoiler up front will help.
