Re: Voltmeter vs. ammmeter
I was going try and print a little 3d adapter. I have the volt meter and the cluster gauge.just haven't opened them up to size it up.
Maybe this week sometime.

I made a reference to this thread than noticed the links were dead. That helps no one.

????? Sorry gentlemen I’m know you are talking about the distribution, i have not done my homework yet.. my dad was to take this one on yet…. Ok we want to change distributor from the old one …points, condenser… Dad say this style is not as reliable as before so he was going to do the leg work on an upgrade, I’m a bit in patients so can you steer me in the right direction (thread) we want and easy and secure set up that is reasonably priced and worry free,.. any suggestions?

Re: Voltmeter vs. ammmeter
OK Pau, so I gather that you're asking about the electronic ignition (EI) distributor and where you can get one, and that would be East Coast Roadster (see vendor list) for one, not sure if other vendors have them on their sites. They are hand made, fully rebuilt modified distributors adapted for our cars. Alternatively, it would be possible to rebuild or modify your stock distributor to have the correct parts inside to work best and to add an after market electronic ignition system made by Petronix to replace the parts that wear out and require replacement over time (namely the points and condenser) making it more reliable. That is probably a less expensive way to go BUT that depends on what kind of shape your distributor is in and how much work it needs and at what cost. If it's in the budget to get the EI distributor along with a correct coil then go that route, otherwise consider options for repairing the one you have. Hope that helps!

Re: Voltmeter vs. ammmeter
Spyder, Kudos on that Electric OEM tach conversion! I took your idea and converted mine as well bench tests great just got to find time to install one day. The part I hate! Thanks! Want to follow up with the Ammeter conversion as well. Did you just tie the 2 10 gauge wires that went to ammeter then add 2 wires to voltmeter off the battery?

Re: Voltmeter vs. ammmeter
I did tie the two wires together and used them to feed the positive on the voltmeter and found a ground somewhere.... too long ago to remember where. I have an oversized pully on the alternator (GM alternators don't like 16,000 rpms) and you can see the voltage jump when the motor revs up.nismou20 wrote: Sun Nov 06, 2022 4:19 pm Did you just tie the 2 10 gauge wires that went to ammeter then add 2 wires to voltmeter off the battery?

Re: Voltmeter vs. ammmeter
So I got to thinking how would this mod affect a 1600 tach? I’m good with Spyders conversion cause mine is U20 with 8k tach. But 1600 tach is a 7K so the rpms are spaced differently. Do you just calibrate at 4K rpm and live with it being off everywhere else on the tach face? Enquiring mind needs to know. It sure is nice not having a bouncing tach needle.

Re: Voltmeter vs. ammmeter
If you were talking about the stock tachometer, they are cable driven. If you want to get it converted to electric, I'm not sure what to tell you about that. I have seen where somebody put a sun tach in place of the original attack on a high windshield car, but don't know how they did it

Re: Voltmeter vs. ammmeter
I believe there is an electronic 7K tach that can be used to replace the guts on a 1600 tach. I found an 8K tach from a 2000, did this conversion, and installed it in my SPL.
