I've got a set of 14x5 Z-car steelies at the powdercoater right now. And thoughts are turning to tires.
AFAIK 195/60 14's are about the widest I can go on those wheels. Also would be stock height.
Anyone have any feedback on these tires or another recommendation?
Yokohama Avid H4s
Dunlop SP Sport A2 Plus
Sumitomo HTR H4
Thanks!

We've used the Falken ZE512's, good street tires @ a economical price...
The Falken RT-615's are one of the ultimate street performance tires, we run the RT-615's (and before that the RT-215's) on our Civic Solo2 car.

I got the Yokohama AVS ES 100s. Great looking tire! Now I have to finish the brakes and put them on the rat.
Good 14" tires have gone up in price. The last set I bought was Dunlop SP8000s (for the Miata). About $30 cheaper per tire!

Definately go with the Falken 615 or 215. You can find the 215 for less than $50 on the internet because they have been discontinued. They are super sticky and will last a decent amount of time unless you are driving bunches of miles every year. I've got a set of 615 in size 195/60/14 on the BMW that I use for track day and rain tires at the autocross. They are really nice.

I ended up with the Yokos. Shipping to Seattle and mounting made the price the same as getting it from the local tire guy.
Wish I'd found the 215s!
These tires are mounted on some 14x5 Z-car steel wheels. I had intended them for my '68 rat, but since that is in the middle of a complete brake system overhaul, I put them on Zippy. So far I'm pretty happy with them, though they pick up gravel like crazy - the price of sticky rubber.
Here's a pic of Zippy with the stock rims, hubcaps and crappy Chinese tires:

With the new wheels and tires:

And another shot:

I think it looks a bit more aggressive - totemo jdm yo! In other words, very Japanese. I have this theory about the Japanese aesthetic for blacked-out rims relating to the ancient practice of geisha blacking out their teeth to be more "attractive".
So, what do you guys think?

Well, I like both, but what came to mind when I saw your car was the Ebbro models...

Now all that we need is a vinyl cutter and a red hardtop...
