I will throw it on a scale but not sure what a stock fly wheel weighs. Will also provide a picture or two.

From memory, the stock 1600 flywheel is heavy 24 lb or so.
My machinist took nearly 7 lb off ours, all of it on the outer 2/3 of the flywheel where it has the most effect. He felt it was still on the conservative side with no risk of weakening it. Sorry, I didn't think to take a picture of the "after".
No issue with driveability and noticeably freer revving. Still idles at 750 or so.

Here are a couple of shots of my lightened fly wheel. Hopefully you can see where the material was removed. The machinist did not get over zealous with mine either. I will get a weight on mine shortly.

Thanks for the 24 lb figure as that helps. My fly wheel comes in at 16.5 Lbs. That is 7.5 lbs he removed. Not bad.

Looking forward to seeing the progress. Hoping to learn a thing or two from your posts too :). By the way where are you currently located? In Cali or IA?

Looking good Steve. I THINK (it's been a long time now) that my machinist took the flywheel down to 13 pounds and felt that he could do that conservatively. Whatever he ended up with, it seems really happy in my H20 - it revs up so effortlessly now it's an amazing and notable difference that you will appreciate.

I am in Iowa for the summer/fall much to my wife's chagrin. She prefers Cali and I prefer the mid-west lifestyle. Here is the latest picture of the engine. Waiting on a few bits from my buddy Dave Premo but she is close to being done. I need to work on the 67 before I start on the 66. At least the motor will be ready to drop into the frame.

I see you have a 4 blade plastic fan on it. I have to wonder if those pull the air better than the metal fan. Can you still get new ones anywhere? Seems to me I put the plastic one on my 1500 eons ago.
66 stroker, almost done.

A drawback to the plastic fan that I have encountered, the fan shroud no longer fits - or I have the wrong fan shroud.

I believe the plastic fan is very hard to come by these days. I prefer it over the two piece metal fan just because. Not sure of any advantage to either plastic or metal. As to the shroud-I will be using a re-cored 2 liter radiator and will deal with that part when I get to it. I have a plastic on my 67.5 1600 stroker but I have no shroud on it as I run a temperature controlled electric puller fan.

Today I got the calipers rebuilt so they are ready to install. I had Karp put the stainless steel sleeves in them. I blasted and primed the bits and used some flat olive drab paint as a finish. I like to replace the bolts that hold the pots on with Allen head bolts. Not stock but I like them better.

I also bored out the dash for the new gauges. When I bought the dash cover I bought it as a blank as I was not sure what I would use it in. Turned out nice and I did not biff it up. Anxiously waiting on the arrival the gauges.

Got my newly refurbished gauges which look awesome. Thanks Jon. Top notch as always. I got them installed in the redone dash and put the dash pad from Stan on it just to see what it will look like. Really happy with the look. I know some folks do not care for the wood grain dash but this one which I got from Dean many years ago pops if you ask me. Long ways to go before it gets installed in the car but she is ready. All the wiring is connected and ready as well. Still debating on whether to use LED bulbs or the old filament style. I never did hear where anyone successfully got the Protizmo controller (PWMs) to work with our dimmer switch. Any one do this? A couple of pics of the work today.

Stan's dash pad loosely installed to see what it will look like.

Thanks. I figure any progress is better than no progress. Next up is the 67 dash once I get it back from the powder coaters.
