Thanks Fergus O, good guessing on the engine and tranny, I’ve been wondering about that, will find out when I get it up on a rack. I really appreciate your thoughts.

Will do🙂

I have an automatic which will fit into a roadster - it is rebuilt and ready to install. Now for time...

Keep posting pictures as you start and move through your project. #1 get it running and driving as quickly as possible and drive it before undertaking any major projects. Replace all the fluids, dump and clean the tank, blow out the fuel lines, prime the engine oil, and giver her a shot at starting. You'll likely have to do major work on the hydraulics - so brakes and clutch are probably next on the list. Don't stray, drive it and bond with it!
Cleaned up pretty good, but lots more cleaning to do.
Runs good, I think it had two flat tires for a long time drives good up to 35 mph then gets pretty bouncy. Tranny making all kinds of interesting sounds. Took it to my transmission guy first thing. Getting new tires then going down your list. Thanks again! Found some interesting things done to this car will share soon.

Not sure if I should start a new thread but want to keep notifications going to people who have replied to the original. (Im not tech savey on blogging)

So this car was sold at auction 23 years ago and sat in a garage since I bought it. So the seller knows nothing.
“It’s been just a little frustrating”
I’m a life long Chevrolet-GMC man but, not for this classic car.
Somebody put a 1980 Monza 2.5 L (aka-Iron Duke) with a automatic turbo 200 transmission in this car. Engine mounted on steel ‘L’ brackets bolted to the frame. Its solid but, this engine had no working air filter. The top mount Carburetor had an inch and a half clearance to the hood. Back to that in a minute...
The turbo 200 transmission and mount was shot, had it rebuilt, back brakes were totally rebuilt all fluids were flushed and replaced, gas tank drained, radiator was rebuilt, new hoses installed, new water pump, the engine seems very strong so I’ll keep it for now, all the lights work but no speedometer or tach, after market temp gauge (sloppily mounted on the steering column) works. Gas gauge works. Front suspension is tight. Front brakes great.

Back to the top mount carburetor and air filter. Ok everyone (I’m warning you), this is not going to be an original roadster with this engine and drivetrain. The thing that sold my wife on it is... that it had an automatic transmission as she has bad knees and cannot drive a stick shift so, the AT is staying for now. (might be the only one out there, IDK?)

We tried to do a side mounted air filter configuration into the engine compartment but, the inch and a half clearance it restricted airflow and limited our options. So, I decided to put a hole in the hood since... hoods for these cars seem to be very plentiful if, we ever decide to change the engine and transmission configuration. Right now (a little over a month from the purchase) were close to getting to this car road ready and safe for the wife to drive.
Thanks for all you comments and guidance.
