Cam Stamp help

Post by Mackn367 »

So I removed my cam last night and it was stamped with the letter P..... I must have read it wrong so I'll check it this weekend and take a pic. But is it possible to have a P cam? Maybe this should be under the "stupid questions" category

Your car is a 1600 iirc. I don't know that there were variations in the cams from Nissan (other than motorsports cams). The U20 had 3 distinct cams available from Nissan plus a bunch of custom grinds.

I have 1600 cams from a .66, a 69 and an H20. I have miked l the lobes at max lift and across the lobe perpendicular to the max lift. I set them between makeshift centers and measured lift with a dial indicator. I've visually compared for different profiles and duration. They all look the same to me. It's possible there may be small variations that I can's see.

The only markings I've ever seen on an R16 cam are from regrinds.

If you really want to know what the grind is, have a shop measure it for you.

I should be taking a look at it today. I’ll take a few pics and maybe it will help. I’m just curious but not a big deal bc i plan to send it as a core anyways.
