If you go the enamel/clear coat route, use a “2K” epoxy clear. It will hold up much better.

Eastwood’s 2K epoxy is a great product but only good for 250f I beleive , VHT engine enamel clear coat will do 500F+

I used the Eastwood clear coat five years ago. Got a great result, very durable - looks like I just painted it.

Honestly the speckle coat would look weird to me. However, the Duplicolor website shows it to be laquer based. Easy to use and quick dry time. Durable.
The laquer might lift the red, so I would mask a little 3"x3" square section and test it.
You could try duplicolor 2014 Camaro "Red Hot" and tell everyone that its Pagoda red .).) spray 5-6 coats a little dry to hide any imperfections. You could clear coat it dry as well, but not too dry.

I repainted mine body color when I had the engine out. It was a lot of work but I'm glad I did it. I used a 2K epoxy (base coat and clear coat). It was a lot of work but I'm glad I did it. It was painted black.

I went with a light grey. almost a primer color. I'd probably prefer the same as the body color but I'm tending toward a repaint to grey or black anyway. I never did like the Ivory/cream/yellow. My thought is that for non show cars, it will get dirty and I will have to find that errant nut so I tried to pick a color that would be compatible with my real life issues.

Bring the car to 4760 E Olympic, right off the 710..

They will make you a spray can of automotive paint, with hardeners, that will match, and will be durable. You have about a week to spray it, maybe less.. So be ready to paint when you go buy it. I think it was like $20 per can to get it done. Alternative to bringing the car, bring the grill from the cowl, assuming it is body color..

Still on the fence on which way to go paint or spatter. Here’s a example of a beauty of a 510 with the darker spatter. I’m leaning toward the lighter gray Duplicolor. It seems impervious to fuel and oil as I let it stand for awhile in it. It feels like 60 grit sandpaper when dry.

The spatter texture will trap dirt and oil easier, I think, and harder to clean than a smooth surface.

If you're stuck on the fence than maybe you could do both! First the spatter to hide the imperfections and then top coat with a single stage body color from an automotive paint store to give it that "finished look". There is really no need to go through the time and expense of a two stage paint, as manufacturers used single stage paints for years with good results. Same with high temp paint. If your under hood temps are to high for regular paint, than you have a much more serious problem!

IIRC, there is a rocker panel paint that is textured and designed to be painted over if desired.

I have decided to paint it body color or close to it. GM Bright red rattle with clearcoat. It’s a driver and I want to be able to clean it with minimal work. Rough surfaces would need extra work. Thanks for all the inputs! I take it not too many are fans of spatter! Done right I still think it can look great.
