What parts to save before going to crusher
Besides the engine, trans, and grill what would you pull off of this car before going to the crusher?

Re: What parts to save before going to crusher
I have to ask: why would you crush any of it? Most of any Roadster being wrecked can be used by someone. If, once stripped, the frame is crumbling, then the frame can be cashed in at the scrapper if it comes to that. (yes I know, a single rusty frame is not going to bring much from a scrapper.) But seriously, patches can be cut from every single part of the entire car that is not crumbling. They Sports owners in Australia don't have part cars and are practically screaming for parts. We recently shipped a crate to Australia that was all donor metal from a wrecked (called "part car" here in the US) Roadster.
My junk pile:
71 Jeep Gladiator. Restored w/#s matching engine. My WeeBeasty
70 1600 legit 2nd owner. Stroked and bored
Several salvaged w access to a barn full of parts, part cars & whole cars
......What's in the barn is for sale. What do you need?

Ray what is the vin? RB box after 09000.
It’s not in the dmv system.
It’s so rough that after it got burnt it sat in a field for three years to rust away to this state.
Looking for suggestion to any crucial parts as I don’t have room for the entire car, let alone the frame.

I may just strip as much of the good metal I can fit in my shed and offer it to anyone who needs it.
This thing is so rusted that the windshield frame rocks back and forth along with the roll bar.

Re: What parts to save before going to crusher
Upon closer examination it looks like they used the fenders as a work bench as I see a bunch of drill holes!
But, it is pretty sold minus the part that they welded that joint that meets at the front chin. I guess I can alway hacksaw it.

Re: What parts to save before going to crusher
Thanks Phil. I’ll keep those items in mind but limit to what I can comfortably store in the shed.fj20spl311 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 02, 2019 7:37 pm The list is long...LOL

Maybe take the grille, motor and transmission and offer up the rest?

Re: What parts to save before going to crusher
As noted, just about anything can be repaired, and the front fender(s) can be patched, welded and smoothed out with filler. They would be a good starting place for someone, especially on the east coast where rust is an even bigger issue.

Re: What parts to save before going to crusher
add all the bolt in cross bars for the radiator, expansion tank, all the chrome trim/lights, springs and mounts.
Throw a disassembly party, everyone brings their cut-off saw, grinders, sawzalls or what ever and go to town.
what ever you can't store could be up for bid to fund the party.

All excellent suggestions above, and a group get together to assist would be icing on the cake, and a Youtube-able event! Just, someone please remember the gauge voltage regulator ("Out of sight, out of mind.")

Re: What parts to save before going to crusher
Are those mesh ARE wheels (or at least one) sitting in the passenger seat?
If its a later style steering gear grab that along with any spare chassis/suspension parts. I would say any decent chrome/trim bits. That grille, all the unboltable pieces really. Anything not melted or warped beyond use.
