Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread-take 2
In the interest of saving myself some research time in my soft top project, I'm lookng for help to build a list of soft top parts, or a link to the page in the parts book. Here is what I have now for the '68, plus the female "friction clips" (just behind the seat by the door at the top) already installed in the car.
(I can post more pictures if it will help)
I really only have 5 parts ... the frame, the thin metal piece with losts of holes in it that came with the frame, and the 3 top hold-downs
The 3 top hold-downs came with the car, so I don't know if they are correct. I was able to buy the frame from a forum member this summer.
I have an over-night trip planned for early May, so my deadline for the end of April ... I guess it's time to get on it. Thanks!

You don't absolutely have to have the cables and pushplates. You do need the spacer behind the center clamp.

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread-take 2
In regard to metallurgy, likely true (and I had the engine warmed from 15-20 minutes of idle when I was taking these out) but now I have nothing on this plug to grab (except for maybe the tapping on one edge method). I should also mention that these brass plugs are hollow on the back side so I’m guessing I don’t have much metal left to drill into. I’m afraid any amount of drilling will puncture the plug and send brass shavings into the cylinder. I think I might try the tapping on one edge method one more time with some extra heating but otherwise I’ll have to just leave it alone until I have a reason to yank this head some day in the future.

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread-take 2
MattC, I think you are correct on your thinking about not using the drill. It's just not worth the risk. At worst you will have reduced your chirping by 75% just by replacing the three plugs. Keep spraying with PB Blaster for a week or so while tapping every time you walk by the car. Eventually the solution may do its job. Perhaps tapping can be replaced by pounding good luck!

Pretty sure frame is complete....it moves freely after a bit of WD40. Front bow is very solid. Tricky part is I’m not sure what defines “complete†for the frame

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread-take 2
Do you have the three plates on the front - typically held on with screws - that are under the weatherstrip, and hold the fabric on?

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread-take 2
SEARCHING WHERE TO BUY FENDER BOLTS
I bought in the past fender bolts. I need them again but can't find the correct head height size in the philips head screw. I can only find lower head sizes when it is slotted and that is not what I want.
Can somebody tell me where to buy them online?
The size I got in Stainless steel, anodized is also welcome.
1/4-20UNC x 0,47" (15/32 or 12mm) long measured from under the head, but longer is not a problem, I can cut them.
Diameter philips head 0,55" (or 14mm)
Height of the head 0,125" (1/8"= 3,2mm)
ANY HELP APPRECIATED

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread-take 2
I seem to remember that most of the fender bolts are 1/4" - 28 except for the last ones (closest to the windshield that are 1/4" -20). Don't trust my memory . . . check first. It may not be a problem since all the 1/4" -28 have separate nuts but the last ones are captive nuts.

Dean has them, although with shipping they might get a little spendy!

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread-take 2
Can someone link me to the DIY to replace the plastic throttle arms for the Mikunis to the metal ones?
also: random question, does anyone know the thread/ pitch of the shifter? I found a cool wood knob and am considering it, but its not listed as a part for a Datsun. Just says its threaded internally
