SR20 vacuum line fitting (intake)

Post by onsight512 »

I have this fitting (lower right) that sits in the oblong (?) grommet in the photo. I can't imagine that these are a 'matched pair', nor is it a airtight seal. This is just downstream of the MAF.
Any idea which one is correct? Or I suppose it's possible that the grommet wasn't oblong to begin with as the vacuum line has a relatively tight bend/path to it and maybe it caused the grommet to change shape.

Great close up, but back up a little to show more of the location.
If the fitting is between the maf and the throttle body, it's not vacuum. It's vacuum if it is downstream from the throttle body.

Any way, this is my set up.

Here's a photo that shows a little more. The grommet/line in question is between the MAF and the throttle body.

The silver tube in the center of the photo is where the grommet/line is located (on the underside of the tube). The line can be seen at about "5 o'clock" under the tube.

You can eliminate that port, and vacuum line. It goes to the carbon canister (EVAP canister) that you won't be using with your swap.

From the look of your photos, you are running a S14/S15 SR20DE engine. On the underside of the intake plenum, there are two vacuum ports, you will want to cap both of these (or loop them with a hose):

I might suggest just looping these two ports with a hose (or welding them shut) as we have had problems with vacuum caps dry rotting (cheap Chinese rubber) and causing a vacuum leak.

Just remember, that many questions like this can be answered by looking at the factory service manual-- easily found online.

Thanks Michael. The only manual I've seen so far is the "200SX/S14 Silvia Workshop manual". I looked through it but couldn't identify what I was looking for. Is there a different manual somewhere?

I'm going to do a little more disassembly to get a clearer look at where the lines go. There are three vacuum lines that go into this particular tube. Two are probably going under the intake plenum. I'll see where the third one heads off to.

Thanks for the help.

I too have struggled with the vacuum line set up for the non turbo S14. If you find what page and section of the 200SX/S14 Silvia Workshop manuual vacuum lines come in please post.

The capped metal line just behind my throttle position sensor wire (TPS) confuses the hell out of me. It seem like it should connect to something! I have not found the photo that Michael Spreadbury added to your post on the manual. I think maybe there is another manual out there for us.

The only vacuum line you need to hook up for the normally aspirated SR20DE engine is the 3mm vacuum port from the intake plenum to the top of the fuel pressure regulator.

The ports under the upper plenum need to be capped (as they are unused in our application), as well as the fitting on the rear of the plenum for the brake booster. It's just that easy.

Make sure you have the AAC valve hooked up to before the throttle body, and you should be good to go.

I copied Spreadbury's photo and added a black arrow. This hole connects to a metal tube. Is it a vacuum line or coolant line? Can I cap this too if it is a vacuum?

That port you illustrated is the AAC (Auxiliary Air Control) port-- it has a metal tube that must be connected to the intake plumbing BEFORE the throttle body-- this is what is going to allow your car to idle correctly when it is cold.

Your S15 SR20DET factory service manual that I provided on the DVDs that you get with the kit has excellent info on how this works and needs to be connected.

Or you can download one online.
