Re: Roadster Trailer hitch
My trailer hitch was for a Volvo XC90. Some saw blades, drill bits and nuts and bolts and I have a 2" receiver hitch

Re: Roadster Trailer hitch
I've been interested in this kind of set up. We bought a small RV a couple yrs ago but soon decided that we love driving the Datsun mainly, and would love to haul some kind of trailer we could sleep in and use as a base from which to explore the local area in the blaster. Have looked at some of the small tear drop trailers on line, and some are fairly light. Anyone have some thoughts on what kind of weight would be appropriate? I have 230lb flex form rear leafs with Bilstein shocks, comp height, upgraded front and rear brakes, strong U20 (but with a cam, so perhaps not as much torque off the line than an A-cam SU version).
Did Dave's require removing the bumper? I would imagine so...
My friend Bill Beaubier used to haul his small sail boat with his 1600.

I have a hitch for sale. The box is hand written "Datsun Roadster 1600/2000" .....I think. (I've not looked at the box the hitch is in for quite a while.)
$45 plus shipping.

Re: Roadster Trailer hitch
Greg, I used to haul 1 to 3 motocross bikes on a small light trailer without much difficulty. I figure the total weight was probably 1100 to 1200 lbs. I was running the SUs and the 3:70 gears at the time. This was with a hitch that used 2 relatively small bolts (maybe 3/8th) vertically into the rear crossmember and a fairly large bolt through the bumper. The one Dave Brisco made looked much stronger. For some reason I'm thinking he did not have to remove his bumper, but that's just conjecture on my part. By the way, I probably carry more "crap" in my 5th wheel than what a small tear drop weighs, so keep in mind you'll have to travel light! I think a Roadster wood look pretty cool pulling a teardrop.

Re: Roadster Trailer hitch
High guys, visited a place that sells teardrop trailers, thinking about the Datsun towing one. Tongue was about 200lbs or so, and he mentioned a super light that was more like 125 as I recall. He also mentioned a kind of hitch that transfers the weight forward and levels the car. Thoughts from those with towing experience of any kind? I'm on 230lb flex for springs with Bilstein shocks, 3/4" lowering blocks to match front comp springs. Thanks.

Re: Roadster Trailer hitch
Well Greg,.... Just how BIG a boy are you?? I bet a lot of us here could see what 200lbs. tongue weight would look like by just sitting on the trunk I would not start off with the weight distributing hitch right now. See how it tows without one first. Percentage of hitch weight is VERY important on a single axle trailer, be careful how you load your supplies.

Re: Roadster Trailer hitch
I pulled a trailer all over with my Gold Wing. It had no trouble pulling the loaded trailer over the Rockies in 5th. Loaded bike and trailer with my wife and I on it was 1800 lb so the loaded trailer was about half that.
I think you'd be fine up to 1800 lb for the loaded trailer. Tongue weight of 250 or so should be fine. I quickly learned that loading the trailer is as important as how much is loaded.

Re: Roadster Trailer hitch
Here's a quick and simple video showing the effect of improper weight distribution.

Re: Roadster Trailer hitch
Heck, that basket -IS- the BBQ. Just disconnect and place the basket on some blocks, and build a first underneath.
