From my experience, (in California) assuming the car is no longer in the DMV database, I believe as long as you have the seller provide you with a bill of sale stating that you purchased it you can still get it transferred to your name. You would need to provide the signed bill of sale stating you purchased it from (owners name), (vin #), for (dollar amount) on (date). Then you would need to fill out a bunch of DMV paperwork and have either the DMV or California Highway Patrol inspect the vin#. At least that was the process with my 1965 1600 a few years ago. But yes, the title woud be VERY helpful unless you enjoy headaches Hope that helps.

Well the body is finally off and resting on its stand. I cleaned the frame up and looked it over thoroughly and it's not quite as bad as it looked in the pictures above. The frame is very solid with the exception of the small spot on the X-frame. I'll try and wheel it out in the light later today so I can take some more pictures. The underside of the body was most surprising. I was half expecting the entire underside to have a layer of rust. It appears that only a small percentage of it is affected (mostly the floor pans). I'll try to take some good pictures of that later as well.

It's been a little while.. I haven't really worked on the car since December, but now I'm finally making some progress.
I finished repairing the rusted through section of frame. I may still make some additional bracing, but I'm satisfied with how it came out.
I ordered the swap mounts and Justy alternator kit from Spriso and picked up this S14 sr20det on saturday.
More updates soon!

I haven't been very good about keeping this thread up to date, but I've been chugging along with my project.
I purchased some engine mounts and Justy alternator kit from Spriso. Thank you Michael for the beautiful parts!
Engine/trans mounts are all done. The welds are by no means pretty, but I'm beginning to feel more comfortable with the welder.
Also picked up some 300zx calipers and Miata Torsen 3rd member for the rx-7 axle housing.
Bought some 280zx wheels to refinish.
More pictures and updates coming soon.
