Implementing SSL https:// to website

Post by S Allen »

So many of you probably do not care but I am in the process of implementing SSL Secure Socket Layer to the entire website. That means your connection will be secure and no passwords or information can be intercepted by the bad guys and girls over the world wide web.

"SSL provides a secure channel between two machines or devices operating over the internet or an internal network. One common example is when SSL is used to secure communication between a web browser and a web server. This turns a website's address from HTTP to HTTPS, the ‘S’ standing for ‘secure’."

So, once all is completed the internet address will be https://www.311s.org. I have already done this to the forum and it appears to work as it should.

index.php

You should see a green padlock in the address bar of your web browser which indicates the site as being secure.

This is great news, I have been getting warning notices from MS Outlook that this will eliminate. One nuisance down, and one less click to the addictions!

Well, it is offical-we have successfully implemented secure socket on the entire website. Please report any issues. So far I had a few folks whom could not log on but providing them the new URL index.php. One report of getting logged off which could have been from the implementation.

Tech Wiki is not just yet using secure socket but there are no passwords involved so it should not be a big deal. Everything else looks good.

Not that everyone reads this but some folks are still trying to connect to the old website at http://www.311s.org and you will have issues if you do this. The big giveaway is the error message "you do not have permission's" to view attachments. Please remove any old bookmarks and always connect using https://www.311s.org As to the tech wiki-there is no reason to implement SSL on it as there are no logins involved. Thanks.
