Re: How To Zerk Greasing
They are all pretty much the same, my only suggestion is one with a flexible end. I have one with about a foot or so rubber hose with the zerk fitting on the end. Works great to get in tight spaces. Anything with a fixed end will be tough to get in some spots.

Re: How To Zerk Greasing
You buy a grease gun, some good synthetic grease, push it onto the fitting and pump till the boot is full. If the fitting won't take any grease, you replace it with a new one.

Re: How To Zerk Greasing
Grease fittings are generally generic. I have always kept them on hand because with my equipment I go through them. It is best to buy an assortment because all vehicles come with an assortment installed. I have had a Lincoln battery powered one for a long time. I believe that it is way easier to operate than a long lever gun because it allows one hand free to hold the hose end on the zerk. A good alternative is one that has a one handed short squeeze lever to operate so that you have a hand free for the hose end.

Re: How To Zerk Greasing
You have to push and hold on to hose and zerk firmly to force the grease in. It will ooze out the boot but don't stop til it is plumpish, however don't overdo it and split the boots. New boots are described in the Tech Wiki and easy enough to do . You may have some disintegrated ones...
Also do the ebrake points and if you have zerks on the ujoints now is the time.
Get some plastic tarps, rags, gloves and old clothes...it is greasy.
Top off the steering box with gear oil and the other box on the passenger side with grease.
Be sure to wipe off zerks first or spray with carb cleaner for very dirty zerks.
Mobil 1 synthetic red grease is good.
You may notice a steering improvement
Important to do regularly!

Re: How To Zerk Greasing
I think there are 19 or 21 points - don't forget the rear above the differential. And check your u-joints (while OEM are 'sealed') replacements typically come with zerks.
If you have NEVER done your car, I suggest that you remove EACH zerk,l clean it as per linda, and test it out with the grease gun. Then resinstall.
Most important are the lower ball joints, take the most load and are not cheap to replace, and AFAIK are not rebuildable!
And, in addition to what Linda rightly pointed out - don't neglect. Time to start keeping a log, mileage, action etc. I think there is an online manual - not carparts - that reproduces the suggested action. Logically, you will reduce the time, based upon age of the car and replacement history.

Re: How To Zerk Greasing
Id suggest a pistol grip style grease gun. You can hold the hose onto the zerk while you pump it.

I'm going to try one of these. Sometimes it is difficult to keep regular tip on zerk. Pat
