Are seat belts available?

For the later high window cars, are the original seat belts hard to find? In mint condition? do they repro them?

Most posts I've read caution about using original belts because the webbing could be weak and break. You don't want to end up in your own ER!
However you can get the belts rewebbed.

New belts are NLA as far as I know. Used can be had via eBay or other sources, but as previously mentioned, the webbing is going to be suspect.

This is a topic we should all think about.

In rock climbing/ mountaineering, we discard our webbing every 5 years.

The belts in my 67 2000 are almost 40 years old, I should be on my eighth set. But they're original!

And the forces we are subjected to in a collision are much more than those forces one is subjected to in a climbing fall.

Add to that the fact that the low windshield cars have lap belts and non-collapsable stering columns - can anyone say Vlad the Impaler?

I'm installing 4 point harneses this spring - Better safe than sorry.

If you could post where you are getting them I would appreciate it. I think I will do the same.

Thanks,

Four-points are available at almost every racing / speed shop.

You can look online at lots of places - Simpson, Sparco, Deist for example.

I chose to go with Schroth belts because they have met the FMVSS209 provisions (meaning they are as close to street-legal as possible)

What's neat about them is that they have inertia reels on them, so that one can lean forward and move around, but they will lock in a collision or if you choose to lock them.

On the downside, they don't work with stock (no headrest) or Miata seats.

Cheers

Dave
