Hello from Wisconsin

Post by CART418 »

Hello everyone,

I have been lurking for the past couple years while I quietly work on a 1967 1600 I purchased. I rescued it from a back yard where it had been sitting under a tarp for the last 12 years. Why datsun? I have always been partial to building a Datsun 510 however the wife is more into convertibles so we have the compromise :D . It is just as fun to drive as it is to work on.

Day I picked it up:

Brakes needed some love:

Gas tank was not salvageable so I made a new one:

Liked the look of roll bar but did not like price/shipping to get one. So I decided to make my own. Was able to build it around the seats and at 6ft tall my head is below the bar (soft top bar clears with 1/4" clearance)

Needed new seats and decided to go the route of porsche 914. I paired them with some Schroth 4 point DOT harnesses.

Wiper motor was burned up so I went 21st century. Acura Integra Motor.

Made air dam for the front of the car:

My first comment is "wow, you made your own fuel tank"! And then I have to ask, can you make me one? LOL

Great looking build. I cannot wait to see the rest. Please share the upgrades that you have made/used so they can be added to the TechWiKi.

What did you need to do to get that Acura motor swapped in? And welcome! :)

Unfortunately I do not have access to the same equipment that I did a year ago. I modeled it in Solidworks so I could also share the flat patterns and dimensions for any fab shop to use so it could be re-created. I went with 14GA stainless which was a pain and would recommend aluminum next time.

I cant take the credit on this one. Spriso Motorsports provided the idea.

Mounting pattern is the same as the stock wiper motor. Difference is on the arm you need you grind off weld to remove and add slot so that it fits. I added picture for wiring connections. I did not take a lot of pictures. If needed I can see if I can get some more with it installed.

Sadly-Linda has passed away 2022. She was the 311's den mother and drove the first Rare-Parts ball joint project. RIP.
