I'm working this weekend, so I used that as an excuse to take the Datsun the loooong way to Home Depot this morning. There were plenty of open parking spaces, but I put it next to this 370Z, because it seemed like the right thing to do.

I'm still in the break-in period for the "new" engine (just another 3-main R16, but it works!), so I'm taking it pretty easy... for now. It's always a blast running around in the roadster, though. (Preaching to the choir here...)

Just got back from a nice two day trip to see Damn it Bill, Kim, Carl, Kevin, Dylan and girlfriend Britney in Walton OR as they prepped for Shasta. Decent drive down I5, danced through traffic with a guy in a mini Cooper for most of the trip down. The car was just fantastic, definitely the best this engine has ever been. The cam is perfect, effortless power at 3200-3500 rpm and it just gets better. Finally. 25mpg with lots of triple digit warp blasts to eat up fuel, so that was pleasing too.
We are going to Europe next week so I could not do Shasta this year and needed to drive back home today, so instead I drove from Bills place down to Florence on the coast, then up to Tillamook, taking 6 into the forest. Took NW Timber Rd off 6, crossing 26 and continuing until it ends at 47. Then on 30 and eventually into Longview Kelso. I5 home from there. The drive up the coast was cool at times, but then it got plenty hot as I turned inland, so that was nice. Great roads, especially timber and 47. Â much nicer drive than doing I5 but it will take you longer and you can deal with slow traffic sometimes. Great trip though, glad to be home safe and sound. Love this stupid car. Want a blast she was today.
Hope you all enjoy Shasta. Good friends, good times.

In a mad scramble to try and make it to Shasta, my son and I worked all week to get Ivy from boxes and parts scattered in the garage and house to a running vehicle that could be driven on the road for her first drive of the season. We were able to get her together and 90% done with the interior refresh, but a little too late. The 9 hour drive late Friday afternoon to make the Saturday show sounded too exhausting to my sore and achy body. So I decided to stay in the beautiful state of Washington and go on a little 2 day driving adventure to Mt St Helen's and Mt Rainier instead. It was a blast! Drove on some great roads, some scary roads and some roads that made us feel like we were on Mr Toads wild ride. Got tons of compliments and went a little over 300 miles with no problems.

Come on! That's a sorry excuse if ever I heard one. I remember the time my battery croaked and I couldn't afford a new one until payday so I push started her every time for a few days! A little judicious thought before parking, and being dumber, younger, and stronger helped as well :D To be honest it may have been my 65 Triumph Spitfire which weighted a few hundred pounds less, but I know it wasn't the 64 Plymouth Belveeder with the 426, as I think that car took all the HP the Spit had just to get it rolling :D :D

I drove a 1972 Plymouth Cricket that had such little compression that I could roll-start it in a parallel parking space, the battery was fine, the starter not so much. I drove it that way for a whole semester at college! Lots of hills in the mountains of NC!
