U20 5 spd Transmssion Oil Recommendation
Hey: Just going to change the oil in my 69 2000 5spd trans. This one is the Borg Warner trans. What oil is recommended for these trans?

Re: U20 5 spd Transmssion Oil Recommendation
I am looking more for a gade recommendation and synthetic vs non synthetic, versus a brand recommendation.
Thanks,
Thanks,

Don't know how it will work with the BW box, but Swepco is the way to go... considerable temperature change... the stick doesn't get hot anymore.

Has to be GL4 with the Warner box because it has brass in it. Don't think Swepco works. Lots of threads in archives.

Re: U20 5 spd Transmssion Oil Recommendation
IMHO, it would be worth checking with the folks at Swepco to see what they recommend. I was very impressed by the change that occurred in the trans regarding temps. It had standard Valvoline in there before, and Will suggested the Swepco. The stick no longer gets hot, which means there is a lot less friction going on.

Curious, Greg, if you ever tried Redline?

Yes, the SWEPCO should work. Its an MT1rated gear oil and will be safe for brass synchros. I researched this heavily before running it in my M3 transmission.
I have also run Redline of multiple types. I had a 5th gear failure every time. Never had a 5th gear failure with the SWEPCO. The transmission ran hotter with the Redline as well. I'm not impressed with Redline stuff.

Sorry, I find modern engine swaps revolting. Keep your G, R, or U series in your Roadster!

I’ve used both too. Lots of heat and poor shifting with Redline. Zero issues with Swepco.

Where is the location of the filler tube for adding trans oil? Also, which Swepco oil type?

No tube. Pipe thread plug. Left side of case, above drain plug, Datsun SPL311, SRL311.

Re: U20 5 spd Transmssion Oil Recommendation
I hear you on the "personal preference"... but honestly in MY experience (one transmission) the Swepco was an immediate and clear change in temps, and the pervious oil was not old. No dissing Valvoline (I run their VR1 oil), but...
