Post by shifty »

Got a quote of $60 per steel wheel and a turn around of two weeks here in Seattle. What kind of rates are you guys paying?

Does that include cleaning? I think I paid about $75 a wheel in Portland, OR, but the price included sending them out to a place in Oregon City to get chemical dipped first to remove the old paint. Turn around was about 1 week.

One thing I've done with parts I've powder coated is prime them with one of the zinc rich primers. It's about 90% zinc powder and is supposed to be as good as galvanizing at preventing rust. You spray it on, let it dry, bake it at 400 to drive off the volatiles then powder coat. The powder is pretty tough but with the zinc under it you've got double protection.

Shop around, any respectable production shop should run a set a rims for a lot charge of 125.00 if you are using an off the shelf powder. Cardinal has several powders very close to the stock silver (and most shops have them), if that's what you are after.
