KA alturnitive alternator mount

Post by Mattk »

So I wasn't sure if I should post this in the "tech" section or "swap" but whatever

To all the KA swappers out there. Ive seen some that have mounted the alternator on the drivers side. I would really love to do this so I can mount an AC compressor on the passenger side. Ive looked around the forum but to no avail. I find picts but no close ones nor can I find a write up that Tacomaboy references in one of his posts. So my questions are :

1- How?
Fabbed bracket or factory Altima bracket?
2- Which alternator?
I'm thinking Justy but hoping bigger!
3- Help!? :D

I'm assuming KA-de twin cam - Sorry, don't have any photos, but yes you could mount one from the PS pump mounts.
You'd have to fab it completely, nothing like that exists// j

Are you converting to V-belt or staying with multiribbed? I'd look at the PS mount to see if it can be modded to work.
You might want it up fairly high on the block so it easily clears the steering nuckle, but somewhat away from the exhaust manifold.

That’s what I was figuring from the avalanche of feed back. I appreciate it. I’ll document my mount.

Thanks

I would build you one, but am not doing much fab work for a few weeks. The last one I built was integrated into the right engine mount, worked well.

if the PS mount is crappy , I can prob build you one from scratch in April. j

Mike Young has a KA Roadster with AC and I know he doesn't get on this forum very often so you may want to give him a call?
