Have grills (3d printed) , but never sure exactly what Nissan intended them to do. Fragile, wide open, stops keys perhaps, but just wanted to get 'maximum' heat from the box to the windshield, Will try suggestion

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread-take 2
I'm just curious if anyone can tell me about the cover on the back of the water pump on the right in this photo. In the photo, you can see that the hole on the right is a different shape. Also, its cover is about twice as thick as the one on the left. I'm just wondering if the cover on the right is from a later model Roadster or maybe from another Datsun altogether. Anyone recognize this thing?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about the difference in the holes. That sort of thing changes from one manufacturer to another, and Nissan could have changed supplier every other year. So far as thickness, whether that makes a difference or not depends on how the pulleys line up.krispoulin wrote: Mon Feb 19, 2018 3:26 pm I'm just curious if anyone can tell me about the cover on the back of the water pump on the right in this photo. Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread-take 2

Are these for the original Voltage Regulator? Mine has a hacked and aftermarket setup that is getting removed and replaced with a GM "single-wire" setup. I believe these are the wires I need.
Can anyone confirm this and help identify each wire? I think they are:
Gray/Black
White/ Black
?
?
I will confirm the other two colors when I get home

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread-take 2
I'm curious again about these water pumps I have.
How do the fan hubs attach to the shaft? I don't see a key or any signs of welding. Heat 'em up and cool 'em down?
I got thinking about this when I noticed that the hub on one of these water pumps is about 1/4" forward, off the shaft. (See photo.) It apparently was that way since I bought the car and does not line up with the pulleys on my other engine. Engine numbers are 20009 and 29611, so they're both older versions.
Anyway, just curious.

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread-take 2
Does this look correct? Got this from the 69/70 Wiring SchematicCurtis wrote: Tue Feb 20, 2018 12:33 pm Yup. Large white wire. Small black, yellow, white, white with black stripe.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rJafTJ ... ac2Yu/view
Large white wire = Ignition? Sheet shows a black with white wire going to ignition
Small black = Ground -> Alternator
yellow = Neutral (?) -> Alternator
white = Amp
white with black stripe = Field (?) -> Alternator
I need to go and strip back more of the wrapped up/ hacked wiring and hopefully mine is closer aligned with the schematic shown, but this is a good step forward, thank you

Krispoulin: as mentioned they are a press fit.
If alignment is out you can press/pull the hub backward/forward to correct.

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread-take 2
How hard is it to find a set of U20 cam towers? Trying to decide if I am going to try to rebuild the U20 I have that is missing some key parts (cam towers, valve cover, water outlet, crank pulley to name a few) or scavenge it for parts to build a stroker R.

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread-take 2
Regarding press fit, I had a flange come off the pump shaft sitting at work idling down from a romp. The fan blade destroyed the aluminum radiator. I now use a Dremel tool to score a grove in the shaft so I can add a snap ring.
