Tool Bag. What would you keep in it?
Hey everyone,
I just recently had an idea that I should have a tool bag in my car with the necessary tools to deal with any potential road side repairs. What are the tools you think are absolutely necessary?
This is meant to fit into a canvas bag that can be rolled up and thrown into the trunk corner pockets, so nothing wild or bulky, but fire away LMK
For now, I have 2 screwdrivers (flat & phillips), an extra fuel filter and a nice pocket knife... and I always have my AAA card

I guess it depends how far you will be from home.
Some items to consider adding to your kit for a longer trip:
Zip ties, duct tape, multi tool, crescent wrench, gloves, jumper cables, flash light, an old fan belt, a couple of shop towels or paper towels and a trash bag or small tarp to lay on or kneel on, if needed.
While a bit larger, a scissor jack in lieu of the stock jack which has been known to damage body work and a fire extinguisher in the cockpit.

Re: Tool Bag. What would you keep in it?
Im mostly curious like what wrenches I should have, small spare parts, etc
For ex: My BMW has 8/10mm wrench, 11/13 wrench, 17/19 wrenches, reversible screwdriver, spare allen wrench. Im hoping to use a mercedes red canvas bag and put the standard size tools and wrenchs I would need. I just dont know the commonly used sizes for the Datsun

8, 10, 12, 13, & 14mm wrenches cover most of the smaller stuff.

Re: Tool Bag. What would you keep in it?
Great Idea
Lug nut wrench with appropriate 'breaker' bar.
+1 on the scissor jack
flat tire inflater
Fuses
If such a thing exists, an expandable receptacle for gas.
Bailing wire
A length of standard gauge wiring, plus selection of matching 'ends' and something to crimp the connectors
Suggest TWO sizes of aforementioned screwdrivers.
Two sizes of belts - one 'normal' and one that will fit without the alternator (I had one 'seize' on the way back from Winslow.)
Hand cleaner.
Qt of your oil.
Multimeter
I also like sockets with the aforementioned dimensions.
Spark plug socket
1 spark plug
One sparkplug wire long enough to reach furthest cylinder.
Spare set of pre-adjusted points
Electric tape.
And request - once this list is created, perhaps you could edit all and ask Steve to put it in the Wiki

Ditch the individual screwdrivers and get one with interchangeable bits.

Re: Tool Bag. What would you keep in it?
My current Tool kit (excluding spare parts):
multi screwdriver, 2 flashlights, wire cutters, adjustable crescent wrench, pliers, scissors, adjustable pliers, gloves, toothbrush, plastic bag, zip ties, electrical tape, and 2 gallons of gas. Lowes had a little kit that started it out, in stylish matching green.

Re: Tool Bag. What would you keep in it?
My kit has changed depending on the state of the car but currently, my kit includes:
Fluids:
1 gallon of coolant
1 quart of oil
Tools:
craftsman multi ratchet screwdriver (came with like 20 tips)
a universal socket set from kobalt (each socket has a metric and sae rating and uses a really good socket design that wont strip bolt heads)
a set of metric wrenches
a smattering of pliers including one vice grip
Powerful led flashlight
JB weld
roll of duct tape
Spares:
A few feat of 12ga wire
a few feet of fuel line
Some string/bailing wire
a spare belt
various Fuses

Re: Tool Bag. What would you keep in it?
Besides these basic tools I ditched the spare tire since I have AAA and carry 2 gal of extra fuel just in case.
