Hello From the Bay Area (Novato)

Post by Soonerfan1 »

Hello Everyone,

New to the forum and new to the Datsun Roadster world. Always been a Toyota and British car guy. Saw a magazine last Christmas sitting on my cousins table and said "what is that on the cover" it was a roadster. Had to have one!.

Bought a 2 owner 66 from an older gentleman last summer in Fresno with a seized motor but zero rust. Got it super cheap and he threw in a 5 speed that was sitting in his shed. Bought an H20 and was going to do a simple drop and go, then things got crazy. Boarded a train I can't seem to stop. Had the motor completely gone through, decked, shaved, ported and polished the aluminum R16 head, cam done, fly wheel lightened, electronic ignition, 2 liter SU and hogged out intake from ZTherapy, had the 5 speed rebuilt, cause you never know. Stripped the car down, wasn't a fan of the garage paint job in blue. Just got it back right before Christmas in silver. Gauges are all being done, Chrome is at the shop, interior is done, did a hydro dipped carbon carbon fiber dash and console (saw Jon Framptons and loved it!), upgraded to 68 seats, the list goes on and on. I made a file for my wife to only open after I am dead, ha! I have two little crazy boys so this is my therapy, :D :)

Thanks for all the valuable information on this site. Fingers crossed that I make my first Solvang trip this year.

Thanks again!

Welcome aboard. Glad you made it.

Although he is new to the forum, he is not
new to the community.

We met through a Craigslist post last September when he posted some wheels for sale. There was a Roadster in the photos of the posting. We didn't make a deal but from there we exchanged a bunch of texts related to Roadsters over the last few months.

He has also helped out "oppositelock" with his transmission rebuild.

I am looking forward to seeing your completed car.

Was this Roadster that inspired your purchase:

The owner is local, so let's plan a run once your car is on the road.

Since the Automobile Mag article was published around Christmas I thought it may have been the one. Nice to see there are several sources for inspiration in print.

Not much discussion on the Hemmings article at the time:

Welcome! Your build looks very very nice!

By the way, are you keeping the grill supports and rad supports body color?

Welcome. Glad to hear that you will be painting behind the grille black, you will put many Roadster owners OCD at ease with that!
