Off season re-work

Actually, it is more like taking the season off to re-work. I am running the BMW this season while the Roadster is apart. I have purchased a new (used) tranny to replace the one I have with bad syncros. I purchased all the brackets, rod ends, and coil over remote reservoir shocks (Showa) to convert to a three link. I bought an 84 RX7 to use the rear axle, brakes, and possibly the front suspension. The supercharger adaptor plate is cut out and almost ready for installation. I am going to use the alternator as a tensioner for the supercharger belt. I am installing the power steering pump to tension the water pump. I'm going to put in a power rack. I bought 15x14 wide five wheels and adaptors which weigh 14 pounds each. I got a good deal for around $200 each. I bought some Hoosier 23.5x12x15 slicks that are 15" wide. They are super massive. The next step will be dyno tuning the supercharged KA. I'm going to use alcohol injection to intercool the mixture. I'll keep you updated on the progress.

Take a look at newer toyota pickup rear axles. Elliot Harvey told me he saw a conversion to a Toyota P/U rear and couldn't tell at first that it wasn't stock. I think the axle needs to be narrowed BUT the big advantage is that TRD has lots of parts / Ratios to choose from and they are relatively cheap. This is the same stuff that TRD uses for those off road pickup races. The RX7 stuff is almost as rare now as the Roadster stuff is and I think the axle ratios are very limited.
What brand Wide 5's did you get? I've thought about doing that too. I didn't know there was a 4x4.5 center.

I'll drill my own bolt pattern.

Real wheels will make you an adapter for $125 with any bolt pattern you want. I couldn't see paying that much more for a little bit of vainty. I plan to use some stick on carbon fiber look stuff on the wheel centers. It will be a joke but will turn some heads.

I am surprized you are not looking at a Ford 8" rear end..full floating axles, inexpensive gearsets and LSD's?

I bought the entire 84 RX7 for $100. It has a limited slip, disc brakes, and the preferred gear ratio already installed. This is a fairly popular rear end for the autocross crowd. They tend to hold up well with lots of power. Scott McQueen is running this axle in his multi-championship winning sprite. He has about 500 horsepower and equally huge tires. The axle is small and light. You just have to be careful to get everything lined up properly when you narrow it. The attachment points for the rear suspension are also tricky. Scott has pulled the 3 link attachments out of his a few times. He also split the tubes open like a banana once because the attachment points didn't distribute the load well. I plan to weld a pipe around the axle at the point where the 3-link will weld on. The load should be carried be the entire perimeter of the pipe instead of just the point where the bracket welds to the axle.

The 8" or even a 8.8 would be a good choice. I think Don used a 9 in his E-Mod. It is always a trade off between weight and strength. We'll see how this works.

I guess there isn't anybody racing this year. There aren't many posts in this forum. I came in second at the second autocross. I was running the 88 BMW 325is in DSP. I got beat by 0.08 seconds which equals about 1/2 inch. I would have won by 0.30 seconds but my fastest run had a cone. I am still working on the roadster project when I get some spare time. Mostly I've been researching and buying parts. I bought some Real brand wheels because the guy in California I was going to get the wheels from was too squirrely and crapped out on me. I've been fixing my laptop so that I can do some dyno tuning using it. I also bought an automatic bell housing that will allow me to hook the motor to the dyno.
