Introducing CJex
Hey guys,
My name is Christopher Jex... but all my friends call me Jex
I've been lurking in here for a few years, registered six months ago or so… Anyways I am fairly new to the roadster platform but have been building Datsuns, Nissans and Infinities the last 20 years.
I was the president of a 200 member 240sx club in Dallas TX in the late 90's and early 2000's, my blue s14 was one of the first sr20 swaps outside of California. It was featured in Import Tuner December 2002. I have a solid reputation with the people who know me and look forward to building not only badass cars but friendships here in the Datsun roadster community. I hope to get to know y'all soon.
I'll post some pics of me and some cars that hopefully speak a 1000 words. My current project is a 66 Datsun roadster that I am swapping in a 2003 SR20DE Autech version with six speed transmission... of course all with the help of Michael Spreadbury build tread to follow shortly. Thanks!

Re: Introducing CJex
Welcome Cjex. You will love the Autech. I just had mine tuned for the 3rd time and it put out a healthy 160 rwhp (165 with the K&N air filter off) and 139 lb/ft of torque and spins easily to 7500 rpms. I was hoping for 170 but, without the factory header, it's going to be a challenge. I'm running a 5-speed. It comes alive at about 3000 rpms but is very docile below that. It is fun to drive.

Sorry Keith I'm back to my home land just south of Seattle, in Renton Washington, lucky for me the troops are already rallying up here... I miss the Texas Sun and the car culture there but it's also good to be home.cktrap wrote:Welcome! Are you still in Dallas? Their are a few of us here. We could use someone to rally the local troops.

Re: Introducing CJex
Thanks for the welcome, your car is the one with the Hal 3000 onboard computer right? That thing is amazing! What header are you running and why did you end up going 5spd? Are you still using the factory ecu or does Hal run the whole show? Did you detune for 92 octane ... just trying to see the factors that dropped 40hp.... I guess the 195hp rating of the Autech is probably a flywheel hp anyway isn't it?sfdaugherty wrote:Welcome Cjex. You will love the Autech. Re: Introducing CJex
The Autech is rated at 200hp crank from the factory so some loss is expected. I don’t have a header which is part of the reason I’m not making as much power as I hoped. I converted to coil on plug from an s15 sr20det so am running a Haltech Platinum pro plug in. I’m tuning using a map sensor and iat. I still have a maf in the car but don’t use it for tuning. The best gas at this altitude (6000 feet) is 91 so there may be some loss there. I don’t notice any knocking and installed a new knock sensor for piece of mind.
The Haltech is easily converted to E85 so I think there’s an opportunity to get more power that way.
The Infinitybox system (ISIS) is used to control ignition circuits, security, lights, a/c, etc. the engine wiring is separate.
As for the 5-speed; I purchased the engine for $300 without a tranny, ecu, or header (couldn’t have used it anyway) I had two 5-speeds so easy choice.
