1966 Miata-Lady in San Jose CA

Hey Everyone,

I'm the guy who won JFBrink's miata powered 1600 on BaT. Had an enjoyable and trouble free time driving it up to San Jose CA from Los Angeles (with a few fun detours along the way).

Look forward to meeting the locals! There are at least...5 of you seems like? :)

For now, only serious plans are to get the rust repaired, and have it repainted.

Would like to do some suspension work on it as well, it's a little more rough than i'd like. Other than that, it really depends on how much money I have available over the coming months / years :D

I am looking at the header and it looks me really close to the steering shaft, doesn't it hit when you gif full throttle?
I mean does the engine not tilt to the shaft?
Horsepower is how hard you hit the wall,torque is how far you take the wall with you.

I definitely feel something hit the steering shaft on occasion, but it seems to be more when i hit a harsh bump on the driver's side, than when I'm at full throttle.

So it's more like the shaft hits the header than the other way around.

I'll have to take a further look at how the engine is mounted and how the steering shaft works before i can draw more meaningful conclusions.

At WOT (wide open throttle) I think the engine tilts up on the driver side and down on the passenger side.
At least it will if the crank rotates clockwise viewed from the front. The block will tend to counter-rotate against the crankshaft force, counterclockwise viewed from the front.

You are right, the engine tilt in the other direction. but I like some more clearance between a header and shaft.
There is of course a possibility to re-design the header to fit better.
But the engine is clean mounted in the engine bay.

A couple of blows with a soft hammer should do the trick.
It has been shown that the venturi effect and the restriction cancel each other, so little to no performance loss.

Looks like some of the equal length header options available might provide more clearance.

Otherwise yea, it's hammer time.

Hey folks, just joined the forum today and looking forward to being part of the community! Alvin, your car is an inspiration! 2mAn, love all of the insight you bring to BaT auctions. I bought this Miata-Lady from Jorden about a year ago and have had a fantastic time driving it. Happiness is driving this thing in the South Bay back roads on a warm, sunny day.

I'm getting an itch to fix the top so I can use it in cooler (maybe damper) weather. Would greatly appreciate any advice you all could give me, even if it's just pointing me to other threads on the topic (which I'm sure comes up often). What's the best way to approach this? Should I find and order a replacement and try to do all of the work myself? Any recommendations for a top to buy (would prefer one without a zippered window)? Should I find the top and take it to a shop for them to do the work? Should I just leave everything to a shop? Can anybody recommend a good place to take it to for a quote in the Peninsula/South Bay areas (Yelp has decent ratings for Sidco and Vargas Upholstery, any others pop to mind?).

Thanks all for your time and looking forward to more miles and smiles in the Miata-Lady.
