Glad it worked out.

Re: Our Friends in the North Bay
It was a friend of a friend. I was working on the Alfa when he stopped by to check on my friend who is in his 70s and he asked if he could help. I said I could use a car trailer. A couple hrs later he appeared with a car trailer. We loaded everything up, and off I went to deliver the cars to my friend's place in American Canyon. They are safe in his garage.

Re: Our Friends in the North Bay
Here are a few pics of what its been like up here for the past week, and a few of the helicopters that have been in the area (since I don't get to share many of my aviation shots here)
This is the Atlas Peak fire descending down the mountain Sunday night (the night that it started). This is the William Hill Vineyard just to the north of my place.
Firestorm Sunset Monday evening.
Birds in the air around the valley...
The guy flying this Skycrane was a badass. In this shot he is actually hovering over a vineyard pond. I shot this at 1/30 sec. He was perfectly still while he refilled his tank.
I've got more pics, just haven't processed them yet.

So glad that you and others are safe. I was listening to a guy on NPR who was saying that he would stay and see what happens despite the mandatory evacuation notice, like the fire would come along like rising flood waters. I heard that the fires were moving at the rate of one football field every 3 seconds at one point with the high winds. You ain't out running that!

Re: Our Friends in the North Bay
Yeah the fire came ripping down Atlas Peak. It moved about 3 miles in 45 minutes. I was going to stand my ground with hoses ready to put any flying embers out, but once the fire got closer, I knew there was no way I had the water resources to fight it off. So, I threw stuff in the car, in a friends truck and got out of there. I had a theory that the fire would do exactly what it did, but I wasn't going to chance getting isolated with no way to get out. As it was, I got called out to work because the Partrick fire was burning down toward it and they wanted someone who knew how to make the generators and pumps work. I left one evacuation area for another.Gregs672000 wrote:So glad that you and others are safe. Great pictures as always. We should have a Discussion Topic for Pictures with a sub-topic of non roadster.
I love your pictures.

Doesn't the smoke affect the motors on those aircraft?
Those pilots are skilled.

Re: Our Friends in the North Bay
Will, great pictures, reads like you are in the middle of it.
My family had a house in Soda Canyon, don't know if it is still there. I remember fighting a couple of fires in the late '60's. It can get dangerous.
Stay safe.

Re: Our Friends in the North Bay
I was in the middle of it. My house is just off of Atlas Peak Rd. The houses 2 lots below me burned, and the house across the street from the driveway entrance is gone. I also got the Partrick (that became the Nuns fire) from work. I watched that burn most of the way to Sonoma Monday morning. I got shots of the Atlas Peak fire burning through Skyline park in South Napa as well. I literally traded one mandatory evacuation zone for another. Sunday night into Monday morning, fire crews weren't even trying to fight the fires just get people out safely.Fetch wrote:Will, great pictures, reads like you are in the middle of it.

I hope they learn something from this.
Here is what David Geffen did in a past fire, hired his own crew
