derusting a crusty block

Post by spl310 »

So, you have the original engine for your car, but some dumba$$ PO left it out in the rain too long? Never fear! There is hope that you can rebuild it!!

Someone posted this information on the Roadster list, so I am sharing it here. They also posted how to paint your car for under $50...

But there is! Sleeving and metal stitching are used to save irreplaceable blocks. Sleeving is not so bad. If that block only needed one, it would have been saved. It has more problems though...

Regardless though, It did clean up real real nice for being as rusty as it was!

Andy,
If you do this type of paint job can you post pics or perhaps even start a new thread? I read part of the info and they said it was done by the guys on Monster Garage.

There will be a full write-up on my webpage with dozens of photos (more than I'd want to pollute a thread with over here) and I will so a post over here as well if folks are interested. I figure if it doesn't work out I am only out $50 and can repaint over it. I'm also going to do some samples and testing first, too.

im going to go get some paint tomorrow and ill let you know how it works with some pics :D.

Ill probably get some black (the hardest to do, just to really test it.)

This really isn't any different than a single stage paint, if not better.

Also i read all 17 pages in about 3 hours...fun fun, also that im a member on that board and i didn't even see that.
