Check the overflow tubes from the carb float bowls. Many times after you adjust the carb float bowls the tubes (if they are still the original metal tubes) can bang around making noise.Now the exhaust has some shaking noise of metal against metal, I guess all this engine shaking loosened up some bolts in there?
I'll check if I can tighten anything myself or use some wire to reduce the shake.

Hi Manu,
What route did you pick? Are you camping or staying in motels? I hope Americans are showing you some hospitality.
Glad you got the sticky floats/ float valves unstuck. Might want to inspect those when you get back.Maybe a piece of gas tank crud made it thru to the fuel valves.

Hello everyone,
Made it home last night around 10pm.
I'll do a little write-up as soon as I have time and post pictures! Right now I'm a little slammed with work.
In summary, Ruby held up really well and the trip was an amazing experience!
Here are the issues that came up during the trip:
- Exhaust mounts have given up the ghost - temporary fix with a hose clamp
- Coolant turns out brown
- Brake pads scream when coming to a full stop
- Rattling vibration coming intermittently coming from the transmission
She is resting right now, I don't think she had been driven that long in a while (if ever).
Any recommandations welcome!

Replace tranmission fluid.
Replace coolant.
Repack front wheel bearings and replace front pads.

Ruby's in the air but front wheels don't rotate freely. As if brakes were too tight. I'm afraid installing new pads will make it tighter. (Sorry for the stupid questions, it's my first changing pads)

No change after opening and closing bleed screw.
Also, I can't un-tighten transmission filler plug! This thing is tight as hell!

Gently tap the filler plug 10-12 times, and try again. it may have some thread sealer on it.
Brake pads should move freely in the caliper. Remove the pads and polish the edges and the pins.

Tried the gentle tap + extended the arm of the wrench with a long pvc tube for more leverage. But the Filler plug is not moving at all... and my brother and I have put a lot of force into it. Maybe on a lift with an even longer wrench could help.

Try hitting it with a little P.B. Blaster, this stuff works wonders. Give it as much time to work itself in as you can before trying to loosen the plug. This stuff or an equivalent should be a staple in your arsenal!

If really stuck you can bring the car to one of those Jiffy Lube etc places. The type that changes the oil and tops off the fluids. They could crack the transmission fill bolt for you, then retighten snugly.Also they are supposed to lube the zerks. You have to watch those places because they can cheat, but if you can see them work you know it got done.
Then you can change the tranny fluid at home.

Sprayed PB blastover it, did not help yet but I'm letting it set for a while and will try again. If still no success, I'll go for Linda's solution! But this has become a question of honor. This plug will not win.
Good thing about all this (besides me learning new stuff - about Ruby and about my own patience), I saw a super nice 2000 on the way back from autozone. Driven by a young lad. Spoke to him at the red light and told him to come to the forum, he didn't know about it.
