Got the ARP studs installed in the rear axle and put the new Gas-Adjust shocks on. Rear suspension is officially finished for now....

Finally took care of a few things that have been on my list for awhile. Installed new one piece weatherstripping around the doors that the PO had done in small section-
Removed the black paint from the steering wheel spokes then made them silver and added a new leather wrap-
Last, I massaged the door trim piece that had been crimped and stuck out. This happened when there weren't any door limiter-

With the frame mostly done today I have started stripping the "purple turd" as Ross dubbed it. Need to see what I am dealing with under the purple.

Hey some of us have purple stuff
I installed some gauges today ... its all part of a transmission adventure. Mr Framptons gauges, referb my tach, speedo and oil pressure make my ammeter and fuel gauge look a little dull. Oh well ... still happy

I thought about my wires and who might notice. No disappointment here, they were for my electric fan, but I now have confidence in the thermal switch so they will vanish!Curtis wrote:Jon Frampton gauges, some day... I filled my oil filter with oil (yes an ounce or less was spilled adding oil to the filter), turned my engine upside down and added the oil filter . Took engine off stand and placed flywheel on the crank.

What is the brand of the steering wheel leather wrap? Is that a Wheelskins cover? What size and color scheme did you order?RBMann wrote:Finally took care of a few things that have been on my list for awhile. I bought it on Amazon-
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N6 ... UTF8&psc=1
Black/red, Size L=15.4-15.7" dia. that fit perfect. They have stitching on both edges. It is too wide for our old skinny steering wheels so I just trimmed one edge a little. I will probably redo the lacing as I don't like how I went around the spokes.

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
A number of spare parts came with the car ... all were stacked in bins and boxes in the little lean-to open to the wind & dust (mostly wood dust from my bride's love of the chop-saw). Slapped together a sturdy shelf with some left-over decking, re-packed the bins and eliminated a few boxes ... and added a dust cover.
Kinda proud of myself 'cause I am NOT a carpenter Yep ... that's a 1600, tranny & SU carbs tucked in there

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
completed my rear axle seal replacement.
I used the axles with the gash in it. my other axles were questionable at the inner seal area. The collar covers it fine. 12ton HF press worked great. did not have to go back to the dumba$$ machinist
it seems as though the PO had the washer and the inner seal reversed on the driver side that is why it was leaking.
cleaned and honed the wheel cylinders, replaced the driver side brake line as I buggered it up getting it off. replaced the wheel cylinder dust boots with ones from a rock auto wheel cylinder (cheap).
tried to clean up the brake drums, may have another set polished and sealed with high temp clear paint?
replaced the clutch slave with a speed bleeder EXCELLENT PRODUCT and bled it clean
switched the blinker can for an LED compliant but it wont fit in the old can
drove it all over town and developed a valve cover gasket leak. will replace tomorrow.

fixed one electrical problem and created 2 more . popped off one headlamp to costum fit the new LED headlamps with white Halos! sick looking btw . can't wait to see them on the car . had the dash ones in but those are back out finding a short .said a few cusswords. and found some leaks while under the car , but haven't fixed yet. I think that's it .

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
I'm putting a 5 speed in my 67 restoration so I made a new transmission mount. The Bob Sharp manual says to use the 4 speed mount and lower it to the bottom holes. Then you drill new holes for the 5 speed. Wasn't crazy about that. The 67 of course doesn't have holes in the bottom of the frame for the later mount.
I wanted a mount that could use either the stock 5 speed rubber mount or as some have done the GM/Chevy mount. So here's what I made. And my frame sorta has an engine and transmission.
