Hey There,
Long time owner of different sports car here , I went from a supercharged Miata to E36 M3, Etc. I was recently looking for something to replace my 987 Boxster S and was doing some research on the Intermeccanica Speedster for my next week-end toy on the web when I saw this picture and was infatuated :D
Image

Since I'm kind of a car nut I knew the car but I had never really taken the time to look at it let alone research it, which I now did ,extensively, and quickly came to realize this is the perfect car for me and exactly what i was looking for:
-Small, quick and nimble
-Light weight and Great Handling
-Relatively easy to modify
-Not too expensive
-Good cool factor
-Of the beaten path as classic goes

I'am now shopping for my first Roadster and learning more about the cars which led to my best finding yet ,this forum and the Roadster Community
Since I've joined I have spoken to at least half a dozen person (Michael, Kevin, Ross, etc) and the willingness t help and provide information is outstanding , you fell like everyone would if they could come over for the weekend and work on the car with you and that's just amzing

So I'm looking forward to finding the car I want and to put it on the road when next summer comes

Jack

Best of luck in your search, it can be frustrating and also very rewarding when you find the right one.

Don't have my Roadster yet , but getting ready for it and doing tons of research to make sure I have ongoing support, parts etc.

Found out today that I have living about 5 minutes from me a gentleman who was a master mechanic for Datsun/Nissan for 40+ years.
He was chief mechanic at the first Datsun dealer in the city he is now retired but still fiddle with 240Zs and roadster all the time and looking forward to support me when I get my car , and he knows all kinds of local Datsun experts

Ongoing local support was a concern but not anymore I'm so freaking happy now , I had to share :D :D :D

Hey guys though it might be time to do an update on the Roadster Search as it's already been 3 months since I joined the forum and started kind of looking . But first off I nee to thank everyone on the forum to be so patient with my millions questions both in private and public , I know I've said that before but having been members of different car communities and forums I have never seen one as generally helpful as this one, Roadster people really rock :smt023 :smt041

I have not yet purchased a Roadster but it is not because I can't find one, au contraire , I have had so many cars offered that I had to create a spreadsheet to properly compare them lol, I have had everything offered to me from a numbers matching silver 67.5 2000 (SU) to full projects like this lol

(SRL-5475)
Image

I have a couple of nice car that I was looking at out west but to be honest with the taxes, shipping , duties AND the exchange rates it's killing the value
see greyed out section
Image

On top of that I've discovered there's a very strong local following for Roadsters it's mostly concentrated in another town but not so far as to be impossible and a lot of these guys have multiple cars and some nice one are for sale so there's definitely a strong chance I might buy locally (saves a lot of headaches to register the car also )

So the search continues and I will be seeing tomorrow a 67.5 2000 with a 68 frame that is being restored , a 68 2000 and maybe the Original 67.5 and later this month on my way to San Francisco 2 of the cars out west

I also have to see sometimes in March 2 67.5 with stoker engines (1 in Canada 1 in US ) a 69 2000 in Ontario and a Restored 66 with a U20 out east , so as you can see the search is alive and well . and I might add loads of fun

Maybe it's just me, but you seem to be all over the board. Do you want a high windshield or a low? A 1600, or a 2000, or a swapped car? Do you want a 67.5 2000, or a more pedestrian version? I think that you should narrow it all down a little more.

Well I want the best car I can buy that will fit within my budget, High or low I don't really care (but give preference to flat dash), U20 prefered , but KA or H/R20 Strokers welcomed
If you read my posts you'll know that a "pedestrian" version is not what I'm looking for, if you're basing your comment on the spreadsheet I posted , it's incomplete and was just put here to illustrate the point about the fees
here a more complete version

Nice, depending on the reserve, and the savings in duty etc could be big. Leave room to enjoy now and upgrade later if desired.

Hey guys
Going to see over the next few weeks a couple of restored 66's and wanted some opinions on what to check or look for , What pictures should I take and post to help identify potential risk
some details that were shared by the sellers :

084.jpg
086.jpg
085.jpg
087.jpg
Red 66 1600: (2 hours away)
Restored ~3-4 years ago frame off 90% completed ,
All rust removed and replaced with new sheet metal,
has not had it running for sometime , but was running well when parked
Needs new top and Dash Pad
Brakes should be bled
Something seems off about the side mouldings and one of the Datsun 1600 is definitely crooked (thoughts)
Interior is 7.5/10

I have located locally a recently rebuilt U20 (custom cam grind, .020 piston) and 5 speed that would go in it so not really worried about the R16. Total cost with U20 installed would be very close to the green car ,

Green 66 1600: (13 hours away)
Restored 2016 frame off ,
All rust removed and replaced with new sheet metal,
Has a small amount of Bondo (I don't remember where he told me)
Swapped U20 and 5 speed
engine refreshed (whatever that means)
Interior is 6.5/10 , I really don't like the Miata chrome loops

I saw this car this winter but very rapidly and obviously could not get it out or start it at the time as there was a few feet of snow

There is potentially a 3rd car I might see (70 1600) the guy that has the engine for sale has it in storage and the owner might be willing to sell , supposed to be in great shape and total price with the U20 should fall into the same range as the other 2
And ALL of them would be a little less than the black car that just sold on eBay

Check for rust of the battery box rail inboard of the tire. Check the Firewall for cracking around the brake master cyl, inside and out.
