67 1600 what should I offer?

I found a 67 1600 that is in pieces. The owner says every part of the car is there somewhere except the car needs new/rebuilt brake calipers and a new wiring harness and some of the chrome. It also has 4 different wheel types that all need new tires. Rust free.

Actually looks like this would get on the road pretty quick.

Defiantly has a few good aspects:

-Paint looks newish and would really shine once all that dirt is off it.

-floors are incredibly solid looking, i would believe the rest is rust free.

-engine block has been painted, maybe a sign its been rebuilt?

-also the chrome looks really good (that can be $$$ to redo)

- f I'm not mistaken that is '67.5 (lots of prestige in those 6 months it seems :lol: )

-alternator is already on the cool side

As for brakes and wiring....

I think Curtis makes wiring harnesses and I'm sure you could get people to talk you through getting everything connected up.
Brakes will probably be your biggest cost. In my experience cars that have been sitting a while always have bad pitting in the cylinders and so rebuild might not be an option.
Read the buyers guide in the wiki and check for sheet metal cracking at MC and trunk floor.

I don't know low-windshield 1600 values as well as 2000s but maybe offer $1500 to $2500 ??

Agreed that looks very solid. If it were mine, I probably wouldn't let it go for less than $3500 and depending what Is invested in paint and body work, considerably more. I imagine they know what they have judging by how far they got into the teardown and rebuild. Brakes and wiring harness are probably gonna cost you $1500-$2000. But Aidan's approach is not bad, start low and be prepared to go high.

yes that is a 67.5. And on a closer look that master Cylinder actually looks new compared to the clutch master.

It looks like this car's dash, gauges, console and steering wheel along with the right radio w/knobs is all there and in good shape.
I agree with the others $3500 is a fair offer and a good starting place, beyond that remind the seller there are a lot of unknowns for you buying a car in pieces Datsun Roadster parts can be expensive and often hard to come by or impossible to buy reasonably. Then let him talk and stick with your $ number. I am sure he will call you back if he really needs to move the car.

Hi i know from the other thread you bought the car, well done. The 1/4 vent shown in the photos does not go with this car. They can be found through the vendors on this page and ebay occasionally. (You might have the correct ones not pictured if you have lots of bits)

looks like a great start. still has the metal gas line and to the glass filter and the bend to the 1st carb. the radio with nobs.
its a lot better than the one I started with. I have a 5speed and I haven't put it in yet. so you are way ahead. enjoy the build.

Yeah, if you got that for $3,500 you did great! It looks like it's going to mainly be a reassembly job to me.

Just looking back through the photos I can see where brake fluid must have leaked down inside the drivers side footwell - that was a pretty common problem when the master cylinder leaked. You can see it ate through the paint so I would clean that up and apply primer ASAP. Then just slap some red on it and put the carpet down later.
